I do my best to make my reviews honest, real and value-oriented as if I had paid for each item I receive. * These items are not totally free as Vine members pay income tax on the items they receive. I only mention this because we Viners do have some skin in the game for each item we order. Why I ordered this item: I've been wanting a home gym setup for a while but I don't have the space for a full rack. I live in an apartment and I needed something that could do a lot of different things without taking up a whole room. Likes: * This thing can be a barbell or a pair of dumbbells. I set it up as a barbell first, then swapped it to dumbbells in maybe two minutes. * The octagon shape is great. I set these down on my hardwood floor and they just stayed put. No rolling, no sliding around mid-exercise. * Build quality is decent. The vinyl casing feels thick and the weights themselves have a nice heft to them. I did a few renegade rows on them and they didn't shift or slip at all. * The gloves they include are snazzy. Stitching looks clean and they fit my hands well. No likes: * The iron sand and cement fill makes these feel slightly weird when you shake them. You can feel the material shift a tiny bit inside the casing. It's noticeable and it definitely doesn't feel like picking up a good cast iron plate. * At 45 total pounds, this is going to cap out fast for anyone intermediate or above. If you're already benching or curling with real weight, you're going to hit the ceiling on this pretty quick. Would I pay full price for this product: Yes, for a beginner or space-limited setup. Final thoughts: This is a bonkers amount of equipment in one box for a small apartment. You can go from barbell curls to push-up stands to kettlebell swings without touching a second piece of equipment, and the flat sides keep it from rolling into your shins mid-set. The composite fill does feel different from cast iron when you pick it up, kind of hollow-ish, but it's good enough where it counts and it stacks, stores, and doesn't take up half a room.

After reviewing the product information, everything appears to be included as shown in the product description. This set offers a lot of versatility in a relatively compact package. The components can be configured as dumbbells, two different barbell arrangements, a single- or double-hand kettlebell, or push-up stands, making it possible to switch between different types of exercises without needing several separate pieces of equipment. The octagonal weight design is particularly useful because the weights stay in place instead of rolling around when they are set down. The vinyl-covered iron sand and cement construction also helps protect floors from scratches and reduces noise compared with uncovered metal weights. At $80 for the 45 pound set, this adjustable dumbbell and barbell kit is just okay, but I wouldn't call it a great value. The weight plates themselves are filled with iron sand and cement inside a thick plastic/vinyl shell. Because of that outer casing, you have to be pretty careful with how you handle them setting them down on rough concrete or floor surfaces is going to scratch them up, and dropping them could definitely crack the plastic over time. The weight distribution in the set is also a bit disappointing. The individual plates are sized so close to each other in weight that it doesn't give you as much flexibility or variety as you'd want when scaling up or down for different exercises. The kit is suitable for a decent variety of workouts which is nice for home use. Adjustability for that aspect isn't bad but could be much better with a better spread of weight sizes. It does give you a lot of modular configurations acting as dumbbells, a barbell, kettlebells, and push up stands which is nice for a compact space. But for $80, you can find similar kit sets with harder, more durable exteriors (or standard cast iron) that won't risk cracking, or sets with a much better breakdown of plate sizes for true exercise progression. It's usable, but overall not the best bang for your buck at this price.

My 17 year old son is a fitness freak, and, up until a couple of months ago, he alternated days at the gym with days at the rock climbing place, with a few 5 mile walks thrown in for good measure. However, he finally got himself his first "real job" (we don't count the pizza place he worked at for two weeks because that...was bad), and it's at a department store where they have him working A LOT, and he hasn't been able to make time to get to the gym and his little kettle bells here weren't cutting it, so when I saw this Kinetra 6-in-1 Dumbell/Barbell set I thought it'd be a nice and easily storable weight set for him to "maintain" until he finally gets his head around his schedule. The Kinetra comes with 45 pounds of vinyl weights filled with "iron sand and cement" separated into 12 octagonal plates, and they're really nicely molded and solidly constructed. The cool thing about this set is you can break it down into multiple "tools", whether it be dumbells, kettle bells, or barbells, and the handles on the ends of the kettlebells even double as push-up stands. Almost everything is injected molded vinyl or plastic, but very heavy duty stuff, with the added bonus of it being quiet and, save for the occasional "thump" of him putting the weights down on the floor, isn't clanky or loud as a set of free weights. My son really loves being able to do more than what he was limited to by his kettle bells, and he loves the fact that these are easily broken down and stored in his closet (along with a folding weight bench I picked up on Amazon). The ONLY complaint he has is with the plastic/vinyl caps that screw onto the bars to hold the weights in place. While I turned them nice and tight and didn't feel any "give" or looseness, he was a little thrown by these seeing as he's used to professional gym equipment with the metal clips or Nautilus machines. I think they'll be fine, but he's been sticking to the kettle bells and dumbell setup until he builds up trust for the barbell. While 45lbs doesn't sound like a lot, it's actually a perfect amount for multiple reps and toning, and he loves to show off his "veins" (it's got some gym rat term but I forgot...I just know I don't have them). You can always add to the set, too, as they sell other kits with more weights and variations on gym equipment, but this is perfect for his needs right now, and I think that, for the price, it's an excellent value.
