  • Audiophile dream come true
Size: 6 feet
For starters, let me just preface this by saying that I bought a few of these cables as a joke. I am a headphone enjoyer as well as a speaker enjoyer. I know my system inside and out, like the back of my hand. I have a Bricasti M3h DAC with network streaming and a Linear Tube Audio Z10 and Feliks Euforia (among several other amps) in my system. I ADORE my system, however, something always felt like it was off. I always struggled to explain what felt off or what was missing. One day, someone in my group of audiophile friends started praising power cables for making all the difference in their system. I initially scoffed at the idea of expensive power cables. That's when someone else told me that I didn't need to spend boat loads of money on expensive power cables, and they linked me these exact green dot hospital cables. Later, I started reading about how these were rebranded and sold as "Iron Lung Jellyfish" power cables by an audio company. I even found a forum where someone did a shootout and compared these to 15 other power cables, and these came in 6th place out of 16th, beating out options that cost several hundreds more. Still, I was skeptical. However, these are so cheap that I ordered a bunch of them and felt as though I had nothing to lose. I needed five of them, and if they did absolutely nothing, then I'd only be out $100+ or so. When these arrived in the mail, and I was feeling cautiously optimistic about them doing anything at all in my system. Before I switched the cables out, I started off by listening to my most frequently played test tracks and some of my favorite songs that I am extremely familiar with. I wanted to really ingrain the way things sounded with my old stock cables before I yanked them out and replaced them with these. After about half an hour or so, I finally took out my stock cables on everything and replaced the power cable on my Bricasti DAC and my headphone tube amp with these hospital cables. When conducting the test, I initially started it by using my Sennheiser HD650s to test things out, because I'm extremely familiar with these headphones on my system. Upon testing these cables out, the first thing I noticed is that the soundstage improved, things smoothed out (in a good way, as in, grain and harshness reduced), and there's a less gritty and almost "dirty" quality to the sound. I realized that the "dirty" and "gritty" sound in my system was undoubtedly distortion. Now, I had a much blacker background. I could hear reverb better within the soundstage, and voices and details sounded lush and clear against the newly created blacker background. The layering and separation also noticeably improved. I fully believe that this is how my system always sounded underneath all that gunk. A lot of people might ask: "How can a cable add soundstage, a blacker background, better laying / imaging, clarity, etc.?" and I suspect that the answer is very simple. These positive qualities were always there but they were bottlenecked by the stock power cables, which I now realize. I've had a similar experience to this when I ditched USB power for ethernet streaming through Roon. When using my Bricasti via USB, I heard similar unwanted grossness in my audio chain. I have a gaming PC and those are the absolute worst for audio. A lot of people will tell you that using computers in audio is an abomination in general. Luckily, my Bricasti has a built-in optional streaming add-on, and this allows me to stream via ethernet to my speakers and my computer. After testing this out with my headphones, I performed this same exact experiment on my Linear Tube Audio Z10, Bricasti DAC, and my Klipsch Heresy IV speakers. I noticed the same improvements there and felt completely stunned. If this is all placebo, somehow, then so be it. I only spent $23 per cable, not thousands, so it's no dent to my wallet. I am now happy to report that my system sounds better than ever. Ditching USB power in favor of streaming was the first time that a veil was lifted off my system. Now, changing the power cables was the second veil lifting from my system. I wonder how much better it can get from this point. I am now eyeing my extremely basic and cheap interconnects, wondering if I can find a similar budget option without breaking the bank that will give substantial improvements there, as well. Overall, despite the fact that purchasing these power cables started off as an inside joke between me and some friends, it actually ended up being the cherry on top of my system. I am so happy that I did it. ... show more

  • Love an Audiophile Bargain? Try This!
Size: 6 feet
***EDIT on 1/2/20: As an update, I bought another one of these cables to go with my new Parasound amplifier. While the power cable supplied with the amp is likely sufficient, this one is noticeably better at minimal cost. Stamp it with a Shunyata label, add a heavily-braided cable sleeve, then charge over 10 times as much as this one. Then you'd have an "audiophile grade" power cable.*** After reading some comments online, I thought I'd take the plunge to see what the hype is all about. I have never spent a lot of money on power cables, as any money that I do spend on such accessories go towards interconnects, headphone cables, and the like. Seeing Pangea, Shunyata, and other high end power cables for such high asking prices made me wonder how much difference they can actually make. That aside, I do enjoy an audiophile bargain (e.g. Schiit Audio products, Q Acoustics speakers, Elac Debut B6s, etc.), so I thought I'd try the Iron Lung Jellyfish clone. I must say, I am impressed, surprised, and a bit shocked at the performance increase I experienced by using one of these with a Little Dot MKIII headphone amplifier. I use Electro Harmonix power tubes and Vokshod drivers with this amp, along with several pairs of headphones (AKG K7xx, Sennheiser HD 598, 600, & 6xx to name a few) and I have been very happy with the sound for a couple years now. However, after replacing the stock power cable with this, I noticed that my amp had more juice. Things sounded tighter and even more dynamic. I thought it was a placebo effect at first, but I swear this cable woke up my amp (as another reviewer said). I am thrilled with this purchase because of the performance increase and low cost of the cable. I wonder how additional cables that I intend to order will affect other devices, but for now, I can't take my headphones off. ... show more

  • Improved sound separation - give this a try
Size: 6 feet
One thing I believed previously was that power cords make no significant difference to sound and when experts say they hear a difference is rediculously over rated. All that and more until I tried this cord as I needed replacing one for my Denon x2400h. I honestly convinced myself that yes, it did make a difference. Was that night and day? Definite No. Was that sufficiently noticeable - yes. Can I do a blind test and tell you which was better ... probably yes, I will be right most of the time. What I noticed was that there was much more separation and bcoz of that clarity seemed better, highs were seemingly sharper and bass stood out. On app based SPL meter I noticed something unexpected, although, the sound clarity was better on new cord to my ears, the volume measurement on older OEM cord was marginally higher. I personally don't care much about volume, so it didn't bother me, just that I was expecting it to be there other way. If you are looking for improving your sound, I will strongly recommend this cord - just don't expect that it will be night and day and you will be very happy. Worry is, there is a risk I will replace more cords and possibly experiment with more expensive ones. ... show more

  • Perfect for high end computers, amps and audio gear!
Size: 6 feet
I wanted a solid reliable cord for my gaming rig and this is a perfect fit! While i do not need 'hospital' grade, I did want the specs it has. Most PC computer cables are thin and only 16 gauge. This is a 14 gauge power cable capable of up to 15 amps which will not leave you under rated for those 1000Watt power supplies or amplifiers you may wish to use this for. Cord is flexible, feels solid and the endings are see through which is great as you can see the well made connections inside. A 6 foot length is ideal as it gives you a good amount of cord to work with to reach your outlets, surge protectors, ups backups, etc. Note - They have a 10 foot model as well for a few dollars more should you need it which is convenient. Highly recommend and I will update this review should this develop any issues with ongoing use. ... show more
