  • Great stuff!
Love this for my wood burning! Very reasonable!

  • Starter set for my new hobby!
I needed a starter pack of thin wood to begin my new hobby: wood ornaments. My husband had a brand-new, unused tool table that he offered me, and I jumped at the chance to use it with another new item he gave me for my birthday: a Dremel set. I've never done any woodworking, but I've fantasized about it for years. What I needed was the right wood to start with. I did a little research and found that thin balsa is the perfect beginner's wood. I ordered this set of 5 sheets as a trial run. You can't go wrong for the price! This set is a great value. The pieces are uniformly flawless. No warpage or damage is evident on any of the pieces, even though this was shipped without any protection other than a thin cellophane wrap inside a box with other items rattling around next to it. I figured if I have to pivot and use it for something else, I'm ready: I still have all my old mosaic pieces, and balsa is what I used before to create very cool pieces. This wood is versatile enough to use in many crafts. I don't have my table set up yet, but when I do, I will update with more pictures of how my projects turn out. I have no doubt that this wood will be perfect for my work. ... show more

  • Basswood Sheet Blanks
I have been meaning to use my cutting machine to make wood cutouts for some time, but I couldn’t find the right wood for the project. I really like making seasonal door decorations in keeping with various holidays and times of year. You can buy some of these at craft stores, but others, you need to make yourself. These thin sheets are a good, lower-cost option for DIY wood projects. These basswood sheets come five to a pack. They were perfectly flat, sanded smooth, and ready to use in a cutting machine. They’re 1/16th of an inch wide, and my Cricut machine (using my knife blade), can cut these well. I chose a free sun project in Design Space to create a cutout (with a few modifications), loaded up a strong grip mat, gave it extra gripping power with masking tape on the sides, and ran it through my machine. (Note that my Cricut had to do 28 passes to cut through the basswood. I may need to recalibrate my knife blade, or this could be composite wood with glue between layers, even though it doesn’t appear to be.) I did need to sand the sides a bit to smooth them out, but that’s probably a result of my cutting machine. In any case, I am happy with the results, really like the value for the cost, and I am looking forward to my next wood cutting project. ... show more

  • Great for layered projects
These blanks are surprisingly flat considering how thin they are. I don't normally use wood this thin, but I am working on some layered prototypes so I thought I would give it a try. I was too lazy to go to the workshop and use the larger lasers, but I keep an Atomstack Swift Mini 3w in my kitchen for just such laziness. It's faster than you'd expect and for something like this very thin basswood, it would be perfect. I wasn't disappointed. I did get a little more char and a little more discoloration from the adhesive (could be from the core, but at this level of thin, I'm betting it's the adhesive to make the plywood). Keep that in mind and adjust your settings accordingly. The prototype I was doing came out fine although I didn't clean it well enough before doming the piece with resin. That's on me, but I'm very pleased at how well the various layers cut and painted. Well done! Here's a photo before and after the resin to show how important cleaning is. For a 75mm diameter, the pieces are very small, but they managed to come out well even though it was a little tricky for the super small areas on the lander. The thinness helped keep the weight down on this. Well done! ... show more

  • Sturdy, Smooth, and a Fantastic Alternative Painting Surface
This set is terrific, especially if you’re looking for a fresh surface to paint on. Balsa has such a unique feel — lightweight yet surprisingly sturdy — and it gives your artwork a completely different texture compared to canvas. It’s a great way to break out of routine and experiment with new techniques, finishes, and layering styles. I love how these sheets immediately spark ideas for alternative painting surfaces and mixed‑media projects. The boards themselves are very sturdy, much more solid than you’d expect from balsa. They hold paint beautifully, whether you’re working with acrylics, gouache, markers, or even light watercolor washes. The surface is smooth and consistent, making it easy to get crisp lines or build up texture. They’re also lightweight, which is perfect for craft shows, wall art, or pieces you want to frame without adding bulk. When they arrived, the packaging could have been better — it looked like one corner had been trampled a bit during transit. Fortunately, the damage wasn’t significant, and once you start priming and painting, no one will ever know anything happened. The boards still sit flat, and the integrity of the surface is intact. Overall, this is a pretty good value, especially considering how versatile balsa wood is for crafting and painting. Whether you’re creating fine art, experimenting with new textures, or preparing pieces for your vendor booth, these sheets offer a refreshing change from traditional canvas and open up a lot of creative possibilities. ... show more

  • best value around
If you need simple, craft wood at an excellent value - this is for you. If you're looking for topnotch perfection, then your should probably keep looking. These arrived flat, but warped almost immediately upon being opened. They also have small imperfections on the corners and little blue streaks in random places throughout the sheets. That said, we were making art projects, so this wood was getting cut & colored by kids - the flaws didn't bother me in the least. The value was what sold me and I'd buy it again in a heartbeat. I cut this on my cricut with little trouble and the thickness seems to be uniform. We also cut it with just a box knife & craft mat, and a pair of sharp craft scissors. Just about anything will work. It cuts with a rough, splintery sort of edge, but sands quickly and easily. A little sanding had these buttery smooth in no time. ... show more

  • Smooth and Versatile Craft Wood for Lightweight Projects
These wood sheets have a clean, light natural color that looks great raw and takes paint, stain, or laser engraving well. At 11.75 inches square and around 2 to 3 millimeters thick, they offer a convenient footprint for smaller crafting, laser cutting, painting or model making, and they are thin enough to trim easily with a utility knife. The surface texture is smooth to the touch, though there is slight variation between sides where one face feels a bit sleeker than the other. Because wood reacts naturally to ambient moisture, a few of the sheets showed a mild degree of warping straight out of the package. The shrink-wrap packaging also left the corners slightly compressed upon arrival, and some were slightly smooshed in and rounded during shipping, but none of the sheets were cracked or completely broken. Given the delicate nature of thin craft plywood, these minor quirks are fairly standard, and the material overall remains easy to work with for a wide range of DIY projects. ... show more

  • Was I just unlucky?
4 out of 5 sheets have a “bluish stain” on them, front and back. This possibly wouldn’t be an issue if you were painting it. I however was not. Thankfully I only needed 1 sheet for a last minute project. Held up well cutting with a Cricut machine at least.
