    • 5.25" Enclosures are getting hard to find - used to be a dime a dozen with dodgy connectors

Setup was simple, hardest part was recovering the drive from the old machine to put in this enclosure. Functionally, it works great with data and playing vid files - I noticed some lag/buffering instances while viewing a DVD movie I own but haven't bothered to isolate that prob yet as it was only two discs affected so far and could be the software player with issues. It sits nicely on top of my UPS and is big enough to let my 3.5" enclosure and 2.5" add'l external (3TB total) sit on top. Pricewise, meh, should be cheaper but given barely anyone makes these anymore its OK. USB connection was... well... USB um... how anyone might f that up these days should get an award! Windows 11 saw it correctly first time and I am able to access it across my network from both my Linux and Android devices, so it checks the compatibility box. Ok, I know, I could have sprung for a new external burner drive - perhaps I will IF I ever get Blu-ray discs. The fact remains, over the years I have archived a s***-ton of cra... um, stuff on to CDs and DVDs. Thanks to the blue smoke escaping my old MB and/or CPU and/or Mem (originally a Win7pro machine, thing wouldn't post/ding/give audio but would power fans), so I got a new machine - granted quite a few gens newer in all components but no optical drive, no 5.25" bays - heck, no 3.5" mount (there is a spot for one I could kludge from my old case) for my old 2TB HDD which also has a load of cruft I'm weeding (also bought a 3.5" HDD enclosure). TL/DR: Simple setup, does what it supposed to do at a reasonable price. If you NEED it, I highly recommend it. If you don't, then why TH are you looking here at this device and review? sheesh! ... show more

It is well made, very easy to insert your drive into the case, put in 4 screws (included, even the screwdriver :-). It wasn’t obvious at first that the included “black strip of foam” was, in fact, 4 non-skid feet. just pull it apart and attach feet to bottom. Works fine, no drivers, etc. I use mine to house an older blue-ray burner out of my old PC, now I can use the drive on any machine I have. Definitely worth it. ... show more

Excellent product. I recently had to decommissioned my computer and decided to keep the hard drive. This housing allowed me to do that. I was easier to install the hard drive into the casing and it started working perfectly. Now I have 1 TB worth of data storage and able to use them on my current computer. Worth the money. I suggest you go on online to set how to remove you hard drive from you defunct computer and install it into this enclose. ... show more

Works, has I guess the standard problem, which is if you screw the drive in as shown in the instructions it does not work. The issue is the drive does not seat into the connector unless it is all the way back, and that can't happen if it is screwed in. You can see that when seated the screw holes don't line up. This is with a pretty run of the mill LG blue ray drive. ... show more

    • Easy to Install and Use. Re-purpose Your Old Drive.

This saved an old internal ASUS Blu-Ray Drive from the junkyard. The ASUS drive fit smoothly and easily in this well made, handsome enclosure. At first I was unable to get the mounting screws in, but the case is designed to secure the drive even without them- once you slide the drive in you will have to take off the faceplate to remove it. Later, by pushing down on the bottom of the case I was able to get the screws to seat properly and it feels very secure and solid. The case ships with a nice USB 3.0 cord and a compact power supply. It also includes a mini screwdriver for installation, and stick on rubber pads to protect from scratches. I will say that the cut on the pads could have been more precise. They still work though. There is also a power switch on the back if you want to shut it down completely. A decent instruction sheet is included, but you probably will not need it. As far as performance, I use the drive for ripping CDs to WAV files, and the ASUS drive in this case is considerably faster than the cheapo external CD/DVD drive I bought a few months ago. In fairness, this enclosure cost double what that drive did. I have not used this combo for DVDs or Blu-Rays and do not plan to, so I cannot comment on that. Overall, I am pleased with this purchase. My old drive is much better than the new one. ... show more

Was trying to use with LG WH14NS40 Blu-Ray M-DISC. This drive is a very traditional form factor so there really is no reason it shouldn’t fit. However if you fully seat it, the mounting screw holes don’t line up. And if you align it with and use the mounting screws, it doesn’t seat into the SATA connector and doesn’t work. And even if you fully seat it, the included cable does not work. I did get it working after fully seating it and using my own cable. However, I’m sending it back because there’s no way that I’m gonna keep my drive in this external enclosure, not screwed down, and risk it come flying out. ... show more
