I purchased a new high end HP desktop. They don't build them with an optical drive anymore and I bought an external HP drive and I just don't like it. My older Windows 10 HP desktop came with two optical drives. I removed one and used this 5.25 drive enclosure to house it. It functions just like an internal drive. It burns my music CDs quickly. This is a good purchase if you want to salvage an internal drive from an older desktop. I am very happy with it.

This saved an old internal ASUS Blu-Ray Drive from the junkyard. The ASUS drive fit smoothly and easily in this well made, handsome enclosure. At first I was unable to get the mounting screws in, but the case is designed to secure the drive even without them- once you slide the drive in you will have to take off the faceplate to remove it. Later, by pushing down on the bottom of the case I was able to get the screws to seat properly and it feels very secure and solid. The case ships with a nice USB 3.0 cord and a compact power supply. It also includes a mini screwdriver for installation, and stick on rubber pads to protect from scratches. I will say that the cut on the pads could have been more precise. They still work though. There is also a power switch on the back if you want to shut it down completely. A decent instruction sheet is included, but you probably will not need it. As far as performance, I use the drive for ripping CDs to WAV files, and the ASUS drive in this case is considerably faster than the cheapo external CD/DVD drive I bought a few months ago. In fairness, this enclosure cost double what that drive did. I have not used this combo for DVDs or Blu-Rays and do not plan to, so I cannot comment on that. Overall, I am pleased with this purchase. My old drive is much better than the new one.

This is a nice enclosure. Fits my older Asus DRW-24B1ST CD-R/RW/DVD±R/etc./etc. drive perfectly. No problems with screw alignment when securing the drive. I'm using it with a Mac. The drive was instantly recognized and usable as soon as I connected it to my Mac and flipped on the power. Just FYI, the drive is connected via a small USB hub that connects to my Mac by USB-C. Took off a star for the (as others have noted) bottom-barrel cheap foam feet that are included. You definitely need something on the bottom of the unit to stabilize it and minimize vibration. Unfortunately the included feet were unusable as the adhesive layer stayed with the backing paper and separated from the feet when I tried to use them. Easy enough fix with some adhesive silicone feet I had on hand, but it shouldn't be up to the purchaser to deal with this issue that is so simple for the manufacturer to solve. Also, while it's thoughtful that the manufacturer includes a small screwdriver to use for securing the drive with the (also included) screws, the screwdriver itself is not the right size for the screws. It seems to be a P00 sized Phillips tip, and is AT LEAST two sizes too small for the included screws. Use a P1 sized Phillips screwdriver and driving those screws will become much easier for you.

I didn’t want to spend the money on an enclosure but I’m so glad I did. This made my drive feel and operate so much more premium. It prevented me from saving like 20 bucks to create a janky solution that would’ve taken forever and not looked nice on my desk. Works flawlessly. Would recommend buying

If you have an internal Blu-ray or DVD drive that you want to keep using, this is perfect for repurposing it. This item is great for making the drive usable at home, outside the old PC case. It does not make it perfectly portable, just somewhat portable. Very easy to put together and works great with Windows 10 and Windows 11.

Was frustrated with replacing the flimsy internal drives that fail after a few gentle uses. This solves the problem nicely by using a full-height drive that most modern PCs can no longer accommodate. Had a couple of full-height drives sitting around from the good old days and popped one into this nifty little unit. Plugged it in to the PC and it worked first time. I didn't realize how nice and solid the old drives felt until I used one again. I wish I would have found this sooner.

My CD/DVD SATA drive player/recorder out of my old HP tower computer fit perfectly. The unit slid right in with no issues of alignment with the SATA connection or the alignment of the attaching screws to the enclosure. Plug and play, fired right up. I used it to install old programs from disk to the new pc and made emergency disks by writing to the cd's. I love the portability of having this unit. I have a few other pc's that I can just move it to and plug in. With all these new pc's coming without cd drives, you can't beat the investment for one of these and you can't beat the price.

Enclosure itself works very well, was very easy to install the drive. I gotta dock it for the quality of the cable, though. The USB cable that came with the enclosure was bad and would disconnect the drive from my laptop often if it moved. Upon ordering a different cable from Cable Matters, that issue has gone away and it's doing its job well.
