    • Great bag, some limited use pockets, no drain holes?

Huge Maxpedition fan but had a 10+ year old Rush 12 I've been using forever, especially as a carry on for flights (perfect size to stuff under a seat). Recently got a 15.6" laptop for work that *barely* fit in my Rush 12 mqin compartment and absolutely would not fit when I determined my laptop needed a thin hard case for protection. Didnt have time to do much research on bags, so bought the Rush 24 and the laptop in the case fits with some room to spare (will not fit with the case in the "laptop" section, but in the main compartment). Love the CCW pocket. My three complaints are 1. No drain holes anywhere, not even in the hydration pocket section. 2. I don't like the little half pouch pockets at the top exterior part of the bag. The compartments are an awkward size and the internal mesh zip area is a waste of space due to being so small (unless you make it your lip balm pocket?). Really only good for a compact flashlight and can barely fit a leatherman in there too. I miss the large upper exterior pocket the Rush 12 had. I could use the ccw pocket, but if Im using it for ccw, I dont want to mix other items in there. 3. The wide "water bottle pockets" are kind of a waste. Fine for a 20oz disposable plastic water bottle, but the molle section is narrow so not much you can put here without blocking the zipper and opening. I was able to attach a molle 511 external water bottle pouch off to the side of it with tight access to the zipper/pocket. Maybe Ill find another use for those side pockets..... Also, if you use the internal mesh pockets in the main compartment (I use them for protein bars and bags of snacks) it will throw off the balance of the pack when you go to open it and it will be floppy and collapse.....overall great 511 quality, sure this pack will last for years like my others. ... show more

The front pouch throws it off balance and it likes to fall forward. I’ve seen video reviews that claim this can be corrected by shortening the plastic back board inside it, but it leans so far over that part isn’t touching the floor. This can cause it to fall off a table or counter while I’m getting ready to leave. I can somewhat fix this by forcing the bottom of it to spread out (front to back) with the gear I’m packing it with. My one other complaint is that when I have a jacket in the “shove it” pouch the CCW compartment isn’t all that accessible. Other than that, it’s a great pack if you need plenty of room. I work out of a truck so I needed something that could hold a handheld computer/printer pack as well as a flex cooler, a jacket, rain coat, gloves, tablet, thermos, and still have room left to serve as a portable office. I had initially hesitated on this purchase because I felt the military appearance of it would make it more likely to be stolen. I bought a black one, that helps a lot. Black is much less visible on the floor board too. There is a trade off though. The dark colors make finding zippers and compartments difficult in low light situations. In case the manufacturer sees this, I would suggest one improvement: The top most zipper pouch inside the main compartment is readily accessible and would be very useful if it weren’t so small. That might even be a better CCW location as it would offer better protection from rain. ... show more

    • I'm surprised by how much I like this bag!

I've had this bag for around two months now and I'm very, very happy with it at this stage! I purchased it to replace a Maxpedition Falcon 2 that I literally used just about every day for about 7 years. The shoulder strap padding had kind of collapsed but after pushing it to it's limits over and over and over again, it had held up well. It just didn't have much in the way of organization so I was looking to upgrade there and boy did this work out nicely. The F2 was pretty much just a bag. A REALLY reliable bag, but just a bag. Honestly when I got the Rush 24 out of it's box, I was almost put off in a sense by how much there is as far as options for organizing, for no rational reason other than I figured it must be a gimmic. It REALLY isn't though. Everything on this bag is SERIOUSLY well thought out. There's just the right amount of compartmentalized storage for small items where they stay well protected and well organized and then the main storage compartment will hold everything else really nicely. I love that several of the pockets are fleece lined, so relatively fragile items remain well protected. Inside of the pockets and compartments though, there seem to be more and more of the same as you dig thorough the bag. It's so well thought out and it seems like wherever there was a place to add more, they just went ahead and did it. The MOLLE webbing on the exterior of the bag is important to me and it's got every bit as much of it as my previous pack had, so the bag can be configured for whatever you want to use it for. The one minor thing I think they could have done to improve the pack is to add more options for compression straps. I'm not sure why there's just the one set up near the top of the bag, but it could really be improved with the addition of a second set of straps lower on the bag. It's truly not a big deal, but when space is a big deal and the size of the bag is a concern, it would be nice to have more effective compression. The concealed carry pocket is very nice as well and would never be noticed by anyone who doesn't own the bag themselves. I actually didn't even notice it was there until the second day I had the bag. it's well lined though and the velcro it closes with is ideal for quick access while remaining a discreet segment of the pack. It's also a large enough pocket that it would be useful for many different things if you never carry. It's going to take years of abusing this pack to really say how well it performs long term, but two months in, I couldn't be happier with the purchase. ... show more
