  • Works well but smaller scale
Style: Clean Water Science
The media could not be loaded. We have tested this product with both the suggested dirty water and water colored with food coloring and it worked on both cases. It should be noted however that the filtering materials are vert small quantities, so using a big amount of water dirt or colors will make it less efficient faster. I would suggest to do the test with small amounts, I think 50 ml is more the enough to demonstrate the principle. For the dyed water I ended up using only 20 ml. My daughter used it for her science project and it was very fun for her to do and she assemble it herself with my guidance to explain the instructions. She is first grade so I do not think it is very challenging bu fun and educating to observe. I added a video of the assembly and the final product and function. I would suggest to use a heavy glass container as a collector as they suggested because it was too flimsy when my daughter used a plastic cup and needed to add a support cup as seen in the end of the video. ... show more

  • Perfect Water Purification Science Project
Style: Clean Water Science
This had everything I needed to pull off a quick and easy science fair project for my 3rd grade son. We made our own "Dirty water" to increase the EWWW factor and make it more fun. There were three methods of purification, distillation, filtration and a third we did not use. The filtration was well designed, easy to observe and quite effective; we watched it for several hours as it procuced a teaspoon of filtered water, but were pleasantly surprised in the morning when close to 1/4 cup of water had trickled through the filters. The distillation portion is well designed, but time consuming. It took many iterations of heating the water and placing the collection device over the cup to produce a few drops. That was not due to the design of the product, but more due to the viscosity of our dirty water. Great product. ... show more

  • Elementary School Science Fair Doesn't FAIR against THIS!
Style: Clean Water Science
This was and is awesome! My 6-year-old son hubby loved it and worked on it during his science fair last year. It's easy to construct and fascinating to watch. When we set it up at the science fair, it was shredded quickly by those bunch of kids but I was able to salvage it. Basically, everything that was suppose to go in the containers ended up on the floor and the containers were put in all kinds of wrong positions. In the end, it still gets 5 stars because if you are at a science fair that's NO TOUCHING, this thing is sure to win for the little ones. P.S. I had to do all the writing. My 1st grader was USELESS with the scientific part. He just liked watching the dirty water become clean. =^( ... show more

  • Awesome science kit..Great for an afternoon experiment...Even better as a gift!..
Style: Clean Water Science
I got this for my son who is in the 2nd grade for Christmas. He loves science experiments! It was a BIG hit! He was super excited about it upon unwrapping it. So the surprise/excitement factor was there. When it came down to doing the actual experiment, the instructions were simple and easy to follow. Most everything you need is included & items that are not included are items that most people have on hand at home or in their kitchen(ie: cooking oil, dirt, water). Not only was the water purification experiment enjoyable for my 2nd grader but my kindergartener enjoyed it as well. So, it was a definite "crowd pleaser"(even for the adults involved). Also, there is more than one experiment included. So, you get more "bang for your buck" from that aspect while also getting another activity/experiment to do for another day. Although this was given as a gift, it would also work well for any homeschool, private or public school science curriculum. It is just an all around great buy! ... show more

  • Worked great for Earth Day
Style: Clean Water Science
Used it for an experiment on Earth Day at an Elementary School to show how BMPs work. Was perfect. Way better than what I was going to do which was to make my own.

  • Does not perform as expected
Style: Clean Water Science
It's a cool idea, but definitely quite messy and kids couldn't stomach all the wait for the water drip. You also have to supply your own dirt to add to water, which due to the different nature of dirt is likely to cause different experiences. You also can't drink the water, so it's ultimately a subpar filter with little cool factor for the kids. ... show more

  • Multiple projects
Style: Clean Water Science
One of the best science kits I've ever purchased, for one of the lowest prices. There are 4 different projects in this kit, and they each teach totally different concepts. My kiddos loved the one project we've done so far. I loved that I learned what pasteurization is and the history of it - totally changed the way I think about a lot of my food. And I could tell my girlfriend and mother-in-law were tripping out on the kit and concepts right along with the kids. Uncle for the win (again) ... show more

  • Clean water
Style: Clean Water Science
This item was used for my son's science school project when he was in 3rd grade. It was easy to assemble and he wrote plenty of footnotes. He received an A+. I was told that if the project was not returned back to the child then it meant that it went up to the next step. We never got it back. He graduated as #1 student in the school district and valedictorian. As of now, we never found out how far up his project went. ... show more
