I can recommend this camera , excellent for outdoor memories if there is plenty of light and you don't want to drain your phone's battery. It's also fantastic for your kids if they are looking into becoming filmmakers. For any of these scenarios, it's well worth the money. I was also impressed with everything you get in the box. Aside from the handle and lens hood, you get 2 batteries, a remote control, hdmi cable and charger for the batteries. It even has a battery powered microphone for better sound. The video quality is great, i was very surprised. Having that said, this can be a great tool for beginners that want to experiment with filmmaking. The camera is very easy to setup and use. The battery life is quite good, excellent if you factor in the second battery. The lens have fixed focus, this results in the entire image being in focus and this helps amateurs when recording video or taking photos. On the flipside, it won't give you video with blurry backgrounds, in case that's something you're into. But then again, you'll need to spend a lot of money on a device that can yield that kind of video quality. Another interesting feature about this camera is that it can be used as a webcam, and it's pretty good at it too. The only downside to using it this way is that it is much bigger than an ordinary webcam, so mounting it on top of your monitor is probably not an option. You also need to have the screen open because the USB cable plugs on the side where the screen is and cannot be accessed with the screen closed. ... show more

I used this camera about ten times to record videos. The camera was well taken care of and handled correctly. The buttons started to freeze and the camera would not respond. I would restart, charge and change battery to the camera and it would happen again. Then if I could get the button to playback, the sound was choppy then wouldn’t work at all. Several problems to this camera and I’m very disappointed. Of course the camera malfunctions to the point of not being able to use entirely right after the 30 day return window closes.     • Good with a few quirks
Some people seem to miss that this camera requires the additional purchase of an SD card. The one I bought is 128GB, U3, Class 10, V60 and it works well. Files can be transferred to a computer via the USB port. When starting out, make sure the camera battery is FULLY charged. The power button on the remote will not work initially until the first full charge. Thereafter, it works regardless the battery level. I could find no instruction for attaching the hood. I figured out how to put it together and attach it by looking at buyers’ and reviewers’ images – and still had a part left over! I agree with another reviewer that the input ports are awkward. They would be better on the other side of the camera so as to not interfere with closing the screen. Video: most of the default settings work for me except a couple. I use softbox studio lighting and my best setting for White Balance is Fluorescent and for Exposure is -3. I’m getting good output true to color with clear image. Audio: using the included external microphone, 0db is best for my indoor voice but the volume is pretty low. Turning it up to 100% while replaying on my computer revealed an underlying hiss. I ran it through editing software with volume boost and noise reduction and it turned out well. However, using my lavalier microphone was far better – no fiddling needed. So, although I’m disappointed with the microphone, and question how well it would work outdoors, the fact that this 4K camcorder has an external microphone jack for my own lavalier and that its overall function is good are reasons enough to keep it. ... show more

Good camera for starters. Camera comes with many accessories for the lens and all charging, microphone, carrier handle, cables to charge, transfer files, view on big screen hdmi cables. Unfortunately the battery life is short, but comes with 2 batteries. Reading through the manual I observed that for "optional image" focal point should be set 36 inches from front of lens to get the sharp "4k" image. This just doesn't work for me and the type of filming and distance of lenses to focal points exceed 3 feet for me. The camera SD card loaded easily on our Mac and we've been able to import videos and photos to editing software easily. Wish this little camera had just a touch more quality, but for a starter camera bot bad for 149.99 ... show more

I don't use a camera but my phone whereas my husband films an online show, having just finished his 13th season. We both used the camera, so I could report as both novice and semi professional views. I unboxed the camera and put the battery in, etc. I found the camera easy to use but slightly complicated to understand what setting you needed for what. Once I understood the basics I was able to use it with ease. My husband gave me a few tips when I didn't understand something. I only looked at the manual a few times. My husband used it to try and film his show alongside his regular camera but for some reason it didn't take. Idk if it was a card issue or user error. The quality of video and audio is acceptable. We had a few instances where the filming seemed to glitch but could have been user error. I need more time playing with it I think. However, I think it's a great starter camera for the price. ... show more
