  • pretty useful but handle sections probably need extra attention to stay tightly together
just got this, assembled and used on some english ivy in the back. i have mixed feelings but prob 3.8 stars. assembly was not hard but its wasnt clear as it could have been about what the “long part” was (see pic). and i guess its good there was an extra bolt and nut, since only 2 were needed to attach the rake part to the 3 part handle. the handle parts screw together which prob could also stand to have nuts and bolts to secure them as i felt a lottle give when i was using the rake (but i had twisted/screwed it pretty tightly. ill prob drill the holes in these sections too (like the rake part attaches at the bottom). but the metal is strong the tines have 2 different types of points. i just think maybe the handle firther up may tend to loosen unless secured with after market nuts and bolts and or some thick adhesive. otherwise works well and seems like it will not rust quickly, either, with the finish it has. handle is nice and long. ... show more

  • Great for the backyard gardener
This is a moderately heavy duty garden rake, not to be confused with a light leaf rake. Assembly is required, but only consists of screwing the pole sections together, and the pole to the rake head. The entire unit has a good coating of baked on paint with anti-rust added. The pole is about 5 feet long. It's hollow, so isn't as heavy as a rake intended for professional use. The screw threads are long and sturdy, and each joint is covered by a moderately thick plastic sleeve to keep water from leaking in. The grip is the same smooth plastic, and a hole allows it to be hung up. The length can be adjusted by leaving out sections. The rake head is solid stainless steel, welded to the fork. One side has long, pointed teeth, the other has fewer, wider spaced, short and blunted teeth. I was able to delicately use the pointed teeth to loosen and pull off a couple of compacted leaf mats on garden gravel, and the blunt side to gather the loose leaves. The rake is not as heavy as it looks, and was easy to manipulate. The dirt washed off the teeth easily. This is not meant to be used as a professional's primary garden tool, but is an excellent tool for the backyard gardener. ... show more

  • VERY pleasantly surprised - well built and VERY sturdy!
I didn't have high hopes for this considering it comes in a fairly small/short box. Boy, was I mistaken - this thing is AWESOME! I'm in the middle of building an addition on to my deck and needed a good rake - I have a hardware store one with the metal handle, but where the handle attaches to the actual rake is a bit weak. This one? STRONG!! I would venture to say this is better than the one you get at the hardware store. It comes in pieces, but all you do is screw it together (similar to how these small flagpoles are put together) but I used it for some heavy raking and it didn't budge! Powder coating looks like it will last, too. Looking for a good rake and don't want to make the trip to the hardware store for an inferior rake? Don't hesitate to get this one. ... show more

  • Omg I love this rake!
I have an all rock landscape. Because of the leafy trees/bushes and neighbors annoying pine trees, we have so much detritus in our yard that it looks awful. This rake was so easy to install with all hardware included. The coating is amazing and thick (looks nice too), the metal is very solid and sturdy, and I'm sure it will last a very long time. The tines are shorter on one side, longer on the other and shaped to allow the partially disintegrated mulchy crap to fall through while grooming the small rocks. The handle is really long and is wonderful for taller people too. This rake made yard cleanup a breeze! ... show more

  • Seems like a solid rake, though I wish the handle was one piece
This certainly looks and feels like a solid steel rake. I do like that it has a short set of tines on its back edge and it looks like it will work really well for even out soil. The long tines are solid, stiff and sharp enough to work any ground. The handle is also steel and is made up for 4 sections that screw together. I'm not a big fan of this type of sectional handle that many on purchases comes with, though I understand that they are more practical for packaging and shipping purposes. At least this handle threads together, steel on steel with the plastic ferrule intended to just dress up the joints. Hopefully I have tightened them up enough so they don't come loose when I am using it, but only time will tell. ... show more

  • Heavy Duty All Metal Rake
This JAOTREL HEAVY DUTY RAKE is a great all metal garden rake, but it's not 48" long. It's actually 65" long, which I think is a bit too long. I'm 6' tall and the rake felt too long at 65". It was super easy to put together and it attaches in sections so you can easily take one section off to make the rake shorter, but when I removed one section, I felt the rake was a bit too short for me. But the rake is clearly heavy duty and should last a very long time. I also love how the rake has tines for smoothing out a pile of dirt. Much better than typical rakes that don't have tines on the backside. A word of caution... since this is an all metal rake, you need to make sure you NEVER use it in areas with underground utilities, or around any power lines, or extension cords. ... show more
