In my little Ultralite Beehive kiln, the floor is the heating element; once you get enamel on it there’s nothing you can do about it (well, you can try to carefully chip or grind it off, but again you’re doing this on the heating element- it’s risky). Having a moderate coat of this kiln wash on the element makes spilled enamel flake off easily without risking damage to the element. It does not effect heat transmission, and once dry (and especially once it’s been heated) it doesn’t put off dust that would contaminate or disfigure the enamel. Followed instructions on container. After the kiln wash dried thoroughly on the base of my microwave kiln, I followed my usual procedure in combining/melting glass pieces.
