  • Good Value for the Money
Like someone else commented, I view these type of tools as more or less a kit. This one was no exception. The first thing I did was get out a file and remove all the sharp edges. Then I made a base plate for it so that it would fit on the mini mill nicely. Next up was doing something about the backlash. This type of rotary table has two types of backlash, one that you cannot fix which is the clearance required between the worm and the gear so that it can run. The other is the worm spindle end play. To correct it is a simple procedure, remove the handle/knob and the degree indicator ring. While you have them out smooth out the operating ends of the set screws with some emory paper. Then remove the burrs they left on the shaft when originally installed. If you do not do this the next time you try to remove the knobs and indicator ring you will wish you did. When you reinstall them put the degree indicator ring on and then pull the worm shaft like you were trying to remove it. Slide the indicator ring up against the body of the table and lock down the set screw. This removes the end play on the worm shaft. If you overdo it the table will turn very hard. Then you can put the the knob back on. Once I did this the backlash on mine was extremely small. You should also adjust that degree ring so that it is zeroed when the table is reading zero. That take a bit of fiddling but can be done. Next up was the locking screw. Two problems with it, first it is small, second it is made out of brass. Over tighten it and it will break off easily. I drilled mine out for a 1/4-28 fine thread and tapped it. Then I dropped a small puck of brass in the hole and put in a new 1/4 - 28 threaded knob. 1/4 - 20 will work fine too. Now I can actually lock the table without fear of snapping off the small brass screw. I am not worried if the center hole is running true or not. Probably is but if not I will just rebore it in place on the machine. Doing these things will make it work much better, since they do not do them at the factory is why it is so much cheaper, labor is an added cost, even in India. They do not work for free either. ... show more

  • Good value. Perfect for hobby the machinist.
Appears to be well made. I added a NEMA 17 stepper motor and created a rotary indexer controlled by an Arduino. STL files are on Thingiverse....

  • Barely adequate for Mill work.
I am using 2 of these on a String jig I am making and they are ok for that purpose. I would not recommend them for using as a mill table as they have loose gearing, and you would have to keep turning them in a counter clockwise direction to keep accurate degree tension on the object that is being held in place. I am seriously looking at buying larger and more expensive ones/IE 8 inch tables for about 500 dollars to use because of the better quality and larger table. Eldan Fales. CFO Design Engineer. • Excellent Quality and Value
When I buy inexpensive tools or machines, I expect to spend a few hours stripping them down, cleaning and adjusting to get satisfactory performance. However, this Rotary Table came out of the box clean, smooth and tight. Backlash is minimal, the table has no slop whatsoever and the finish on the ground surfaces is worthy of a machine costing much, much more. It is not quite up to Starrett standards, but to say I am delighted with my purchase is an understatement. ... show more

  • Do not buy
Junk. Very soft brass worm gear drive. A 0.010 inch cut stripped gear.

  • Mounting issues
Cannot mount rotary table directly to the machine table - handwheel/housing extends below the horizontal table mounting. Need to place on risers or mount on edge of (overhang ) table to use. Limits flexibility.

  • One of those surprise gems you stumble upon
This thing is a GREAT tool for a hobbyist machinist. There is practically no slop. The rotation is smooth and uniform, and the over all quality is much more than I had anticipated for the price.

  • DO NOT BUY
The one I received was pure junk. The top and the out side of the table had had runout of + .010. Upon disassembly I found out the five steps on the table spindle were not concentric of each other. The inner bore of the base is not round. The base isn't even flat even though it was ground. Rather than build one from scratch I will fix this one because that's what I do. I'm a retired toolmaker and this will be a nice small rotary table when I'm done. If you don't have the equipment to do a reman I would stay away. ... show more
