    • A good duct tape but only for specific uses

Perfectly good duct tape for certain uses. Evaluating this duct tape is a little tricky, because some people buy duct tape for actual duct work and some people buy it more for odd jobs around the home or even to make things with it. For the former group, this duct tape is lacking. It is thinner and feels less strong than your standard silver-gray duct tape; I don't know that it would actually hold up long term. In addition, it lacks the same stiffness of the more common variety, so it folds over on itself more easily, which makes it a hassle to use. However, for the latter group of people, this tape is nicer. It is thin so it is more flush with the surface of things. The black color is a true black and doesn't fade much over time. And it keeps it adhesive even over years without drying out. In the end, the real question is, are you specifically looking for black duct tape? If you have this color in mind, then get this duct tape. But if you are just trying to get a role of duct tape you are much better off getting the standard silver-gray, heavier duty variety. ... show more

When I think of 3M products, I think of great quality and function with a little bit higher price tag. I was incorrect on this one. The duct tape is extremely thin and has less adhesion than a normal roll of office tape. It just feels cheap and was not what I expected from 3M. Good quality duct tape can usually be torn in a line without the need for scissors. This tape would much rather rip the length of the tape than the width. ... show more

    • This is not normal duct tape!
Size: 60 Yards Style: White
I bought one 60 yard roll of black and one of white. Amazon only lets me rate one so this review will be for both black and white versions of this tape. Except for the color, they are pretty much the same material. But know they are quite different from the grey 3M duct tape you get in stores. 1st this stuff is quite thin and folds over on itself so easily that it's difficult to get it laid down on a surface without it folding in on itself and not sticking as well as normal duct tape. 2nd this stuff is more plastic like than normal duct tape which normally has a sort of cloth texture. 3rd I can't get this stuff to tear by hand very well which normal duct tape does well. Even my scissors won't cut it well as it's too thin and plastic-like. It's like trying to cut plastic wrap. 4th, the black is a very dark black color and hides most dirt or grime. But the slightest dust in the air or on the surface makes the white tape look awful. It seems to absorb every form of dust and dirt on both sides of its surface. I bought the white to tape down a white flat ethernet cable going across a doorway with white tile floor. I wanted to keep the cable from getting caught on the door when it opened or closed and to protect it a bit from being stepped on. But this tape is so thin, I had a heck of a time even getting it to lay flat on the floor as it would bunch up on itself before it could be attached to the floor. And within 5 minutes, the white tape looked like elephants had been stampeding over it. Black dirt stains all over it that actually sink into the tape. And it's coming lose from the previously cleaned floor as the adhesive is so weak. Both the black and white duct tape I bought just can't easily be used without the bunching and then doesn't stick very well to any surface but itself! This is not at all like the standard grey duct tape we are all familiar with. I'm disappointed in both the black and white rolls I bought. I'm almost wondering if it isn't really a fake knockoff of 3M even though it says its from them. I've over the years learned to rely on 3M products as being quality but this tape just isn't quality at all. It does say made in China on each roll while the grey stuff you get in stores says made in the USA. So I guess that explains some of it. I pray that they don't change the fantastic grey original duct tape to this inferior stuff! I ended up buying some Gorilla duct tape in black and white here on Amazon. I rarely leave reviews, but this tape is so bad I feel compelled to warn people. Nothing is more annoying than tape you can't get off the role, right? Well this stuff tears into little strip and is super hard to deal with. It sticks to itself, so if there's a slight breeze it wads up into a ball before you can even use it. Do yourself a favor and go with a different brand. ... show more

This should not bear the name duct tape. This is the weakest "duct" tape I've ever used. I bought it for a project where I needed strong red tape and because it is so weak, I used regular duct tape and then just put a layer of this red tape over it. If you're looking for something durable, this is not it. For as many products, specifically innovative products, that 3M has, I expected much more out of the product that was received.     • This tape is so thin it constantly folds over on itself.

In general, 3M makes good products. I have one of the 'super' tapes, but it's too thick for most chores. The thick tapes are strong, but I never hang weights from them. Thick tapes don't stick to uneven surfaces because they can't fold into crevices or onto odd shaped boxes. I purchased this tape expecting more flexibility than the super tape and good adhesion. The problem is that it's TOO flexible. It flops like tissue paper, then sticks to itself. I will give this tape to my 7 year old son and I'll buy a different roll for myself. ... show more
