  • Hold the line
Color: 71”
It serves its purpose but is not a pleasure to adjust. Sometimes I need to draw a curved line, and this will hold that line with this bendable sheet metal ribbon. The only thing I don't like about it is that it doesn't easily tighten from one side because the back of the bolt can spin. So, in order to tighten it you almost need to use a nut driver or socket on one side, then tighten the other side with the T-nut. This is troublesome when you are trying to hold a certain curve. The hardware and metal do not feel high grade, but it still works. The kit comes with gloves, probably because the metal ribbon has sharp edges. It also came with hardware that was loose in the bag because of vibrations during shipping probably made them loose. The metal ribbon has somewhat of a "spring" to it and has a slight memory to try and lay in a straight line. This is good as it makes the curves more natural looking. I just wish it could be adjusted and tightened from only the T-nuts. Granted it tightens somewhat, you won't be able to make it snug just by turning the T-nut without holding the back nut from spinning. But if all you need is to hold a curve, this will definitely do the trick. ... show more

  • Immediately useful for cutting long curves, but deceptive photos
Color: 71”
This is the tool you need for cutting long curves on any surface. I used it with a router to cut a complex curve into shelves, it works great. Take your time, be patient, the black steel blade can be challenging to bend, but on the whole this works great. Please note that the product photos showing it in use are deceptive. The black metal spring steel blade is 1.25 inches/3cm wide. The photos make it look much wider, which is silly and deceptive. The blade is wide enough to guide your router or sabre saw or hand saw. Four stars for a good tool, minus one star for deceptive photos. The tool could also use a manual, but you can figure it out from the photos. You are left to figure out how to clamp it to your workpiece. ... show more

  • It works, but may be of limited use.
Color: 71”
Keep in mind that this is a layout tool for marking compound curves. It is not suitable as a router or saw guide. It comes with a warning that the edges are sharp and be careful not to cut yourself and even comes with a pair of gloves. Heed this warning. If you need mark repeatable compound curves then you may find this useful, but make sure you tighten the adjustment screws well as it can flex easily. ... show more

  • Outstanding!
Color: 39”
Exactly as pictured ... a picture from my shop on wheels wouldn't be an adder. I was in a bit of deliberation between the 39-inch and the 71-inch variants. I was primarily considering the layout of plywood forms. Ultimately, I opted for the 39-inch model. It seemed more manageable when handling 48-inch plywood width without any trouble. I couldn't envision a scenario where an 8-foot plywood length would present an insurmountable challenge. I could always finesse a pattern junction as needed. In my past experiences, I've tried alternative methods, such as a magnetic snake version, which proved unstable. And, typically, using arc segment geometry with string and pencil layouts. These don't easily translate into constructing a jig that can seamlessly guide/scale rough-in through interior and exterior finishing. I think this fixture will be essential when producing and reproducing precise architectural features. It may be indispensable for tasks like roughing in circular staircases, semi-circular round/oval breakfast nooks, shaping window fits, or fabricating bending fixtures for wet drywall forming or stone/brick arches. Its primary strength lies in its ability to securely lock in a pattern using the system of bolts or transfer an existing contour to a cabinet build. The use of tensile steel enhances its reliability and precision. The potential applications of this tool are extensive, offering numerous possibilities for expediting architectural conformity and ensuring accurate results in a wide range of projects. I like it! The highlight is the solid contour lockdown. It's an inexpensive fixture for complicated projects. Helps avoid expensive screw-ups. At a later point, I'll likely replace the bolts with a brass knurl set-up. Finally, wear gloves as depicted in the advertisement. Necessarily sharp and pointy elements. ... show more

  • Definitely recommend wearing work gloves when handling. Great for larger contours
Color: 71”
Holy sharpness! I'd strongly recommend wearing work gloves when handling this (and not necessarily the pair that come with it, but something with more cut resistance). The main body is thin / flexible metal with a rather rough / sharp edge, it would be very easy to cut yourself using this. I have much smaller Saker contour gauges (the longest that I have is 10"), but have come across several instances where I could really use something much larger...this fits the bill for that! Shapes to the contour pretty easily (not quite the same as a Saker) and holds the position well. Handle with care, but this is a great addition for those times where I need to do work around a longer spanned odd / irregular shape. ... show more

  • Very inventive contour guide
Color: 71”
I don’t do that much contour cutout work but I definitely live by the “it’s better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it” rule when it comes to tools. This large format contour cutout guide (marking guide) is very cleverly and functionally designed and is one of those things that you see and immediately think “of course!” The interlocking, sliding channels and thumb screw adjustments combined with the flexible metal outer edge is a case study in elegantly simple and functional design…if only more products were made with this mindset. This gets a solid five stars from me. ... show more
