Don't have a boat, but I got it to lift a rack (about 500 lbs) off of my pickup truck. It's definitely more than up to the job. You can choose your gear ratio (four or eight to one) for faster or easier cranking. The winch is made out of thick heavy metal and has nice paint. It has a comfortable handle that is easy to crank. It will ratchet up and down and will freewheel. I don't understand why you would want it to ratchet in the down direction, but it can. ... show more

The media could not be loaded. I didn’t find this winch to be of very high quality. I own several hand winches with lower weight ratings that are much higher quality. I just don’t see this winch lasting very long with heavy use. It may be that my expectations are a little high - take a look at my video review and decide for yourself.
