    • Works well smells bad
I presume the bad smell is what causes it to work so well but this got so much gunk out of my delonghi stilosa EC260BK machine. It smells a little bit like vinegar, but follow the directions and it works wonders.

PURCHASE DATE: 25FEB23 PRICE PAID: $15.96 REVIEW DATE: 01DEC23 We are avid coffee drinkers, and meticulously maintain our DeLonghi Eletta Explore to avoid bad tasting coffee. Because of this we strictly adhering to the manufacturer's recommended descaling and cleaning routine. Recently, we encountered a subtle shift in the taste of our coffee, prompting us to descale and clean, during which we decided to incorporate a new filter as well. We followed the recommended cleaning instructions and completed the descaling procedure. We then ran a cycle of clean water to ensure a thorough removal of any left over residue if any. We ran the water until we saw no more bubbles, film, and water was clear. The final step involved brewing a fresh cup of coffee, and we were delighted to discover that the taste had seamlessly returned to its usual, delightful profile. No after taste. This positive outcome, coupled with the cost savings, leaves us with no complaints, and we would gladly consider purchasing this descaling solution again. For your reference, I have attached photos of the item as received once opening the box. In the event that any issues arise in the future, I will be sure to update this review accordingly. I've seen great things in other reviews. I can't tell you how this stuff works, because I'm afraid to try it. Most of the descaling solutions I've seen are just a citric acid concentrate. This has an added ingredient, Tomadol 91-8 that I hadn't heard of. It's also clearly labeled "For professional use only" and that protective clothing and eye protection should be used when handling. THIS SHOULD BE PART OF THE PRODUCT DESCRIPTION. The bottle contains a URL leading to an industrial SDS (Safety Data Sheet) for Tomadol 91-8. The stuff is listed as a detergent and surfactant with category 4 acute toxicity. That essentially means that 5 drops of the pure chemical can kill you. I don't know how much of the chemical is in this product, but according to the label placement it's less than the deionized water component and more than the citric acid component. The SDS also says that it must be disposed of in accordance with regulations, which I would presume does not include pouring down the drain. I can find no other kitchen brands that contain this chemical. I can't say if the product leaves is safe to use or not, but the packaging indicates that it is not safe for a household user ("For professional use only"); so who am I to argue.
