Very smart switches! With a basic knowledge of wiring switches, it can be done very easily. These Martin Jerry smart switches does work with your standard original rocker switches. You just have to know or be able to find out which of your two (3-way) or three (4-way) switches are the "Master Switch" (the switch with the live wire connected from the circuit breaker), and just replace that one switch with this smart switch. For this to work as a 4-way, your original 4-way is always the one in the middle of the two 3-way switches that works as a relay between the switches. You don't even need to remove your 4-way to find out when you look for the master switch. Turn off your breaker, unscrew and take out two of the 3-way on each end of the three switches, and cut, or disconnect the black wires from the black terminal screws. and make sure it's not touching anything. Switch back on the breaker switch and use a Non-Contact Voltage Tester or a multimeter to check to see which black wire has power. The one that has power is your master switch, and that's the one you need to replace. The one without the power is your remote switch. Then, cut the breaker again, and just follow the same wiring with the smart switch, and combine the white neutral wire together. Reconnect the other black wire on the other 3-way, and it's done. If by mistake you pull out the 4-way, just look on the back with the 5 terminal screws. With a 4-way, one terminal is ground (usually green), two are brass colored for the travel wires which connects the two 3-ways, and two (usually black screws) that connects the load wires to and from both 3-ways. These are non dimming simple switches, so I guess it can work in conjunction with a regular rocker switches. This is great! Thanks MJ! ... show more

After using at least a dozen of the M&J devices I have never had problems with any of them. Can’t say the same for other brands if M&J makes it I don’t even consider looking at other brands anymore.

    • Good switch for the money easy to install
Being an electrician for many years I found this to be the easiest to install by just taking one switch out where all the other ones require you to do multiple switch location I do believe that this is the easiest one for the consumer to use however I noticed that the switch is just slightly bigger and becomes quite snug as you insert it into the electrical box I'm not in too enthralled with the plate that comes with it I usually just throw it away and use my own overall I believe this is the most adaptable three-way smart switch that I've installed ... show more

    • Erratic operation, beware pre Jan 2020 revision
These 3 way switches were erratic in operation. I've bought and installed 40+ other MJ switches and MJ dimmers and all have been great. These 3 ways are technically flawed (they get stuck on/off, onboard lights get confused, generally not reliable). Apparently the issue was fixed in Jan 2020 but i received old stock units although I ordered Sep 2020. Tech support was helpful and reasonably responsive, and they offered to replace the units. I bought 6 of these and i thought that was a great thing for them to do. They said I could keep the old ones after i took photos of the PCBs so they could confirm the old stock issue. They replaced 1. I'm not going to install the other 5 - people have expectations for light switches in a house, and not turning the lights on when asked isn't one of them. While installing them is a 15 min job once you find the breaker, i don't want to do that, find out they work for 2 days, then have to replace them because they don't work reliably all the time. MJ said the issue only impacted a small % of pre Jan 2020 units, but i managed to hit the issue with my first 3-way install so I'm skeptical. ... show more

    • Switches Work with wifi
First off, this 2 pack of switches is not meant to be installed as a pair. That did not come off clear in the directions or the description. Both have WiFi and one should be used in a circuit with a traditional 3 way switch. That being said, their technical support is cooperative, and was helpful in figuring out my issues. The switches also work with Google, and control my lights and fan. I have them installed throughout my home. The reason I have not given 5 stars is the unsolved issue where when switching off from the wifi switch, it will occasionally switch off on off or off on rather than just off. No fix as of this time. Also not UL approved despite the assertion on one of the other switch pages that that would be in place by 2019. ... show more

After more than two months of use, I really enjoyed the changes brought by this smart WiFi light switch. It is now a very useful smart life assistant in my life . Not only does it look beautiful and stylish, it also greatly facilitates my life. It allows me to control my living room lighting in a variety of ways from anywhere (voice control/APP/custom schedule). This is not the first time I used the product from this supplier. My friend gave me one single pole WIFI switches previously, and it still worked perfectly so far. This 3-way non-dimmer switch is well designed as it work with my traditional 3-way switch (toggle one). This feature is amazing and I don't need to replace both of them to WIFI version.
