  • LOVE these hoops: Review for newbies who are newbier than me.
I purchased this set to use with my Brother PE500. This machine comes with one 4x4 hoop and after I had taken it out and used it a little (after it sat in my garage for 3 years, but that's another story) I needed some extra embroidery space for shirts I wanted to do for my 3 year old granddaughter. These hoops work very well for me in that they have the same quality and feel of the original Brother hoop that came with my machine. I appreciate having an extra 4x4 hoop because it gives me the ability to be hooping the next item while the first one it still stitching out. Actually, depending on what all I'm working on, I have the potential to have four hooped projects at a time. The 4x4 hoop is an almost perfect replica of the original that came with the machine. I can't tell the difference. I am still in the early stages of embroidery and especially when it comes to hooping, stabilizers, etc., but love the see through overlays that allow me to mark the center as well as extended horizontal and vertical areas to keep my projects level and centered. The small 2 x 1.5" hoop I will probably use less often, although it was a great stabilizer saver when I wanted to add a bee and a tiny flower on a onesie that I had already appliqued. I intend to use this also to monogram my husband's shirt cuffs. Worked very well. The larger 6.75 x 4" hoop is interesting and takes a little extra care in using. To use the maximum area you need will need software that allows you to manipulate embroidery files, but most importantly to split a file. Generally I take an embroidery file that is for a 4x4 frame and merge letters for a name into it, which, of course, makes it large than the 4x4 area. Then I use the software to split it into 2 or 3 files and save each to my machine. It takes a little bit of thinking about hoop position in relation to pattern orientation on the machine to make sure you have the hoop bracketed/positioned with the right notches. This hoop has 4 pegs, which allows it to be moved into 3 different positions. I have kept applique portion of designs isolated to one position/file in the hoop, and am not sure if those will work exactly right spread over 2 or 3 positions. Too many potential problems to think about at my early point of learning. A couple of the projects I did with this hoop were bath towels. The design on the first towel was a little off, in that the stitching around the upper right area of the design didn't quite meet exactly on every step. One thing making it difficult was that I had hooped the towel on one end where 80% of the towel had to be bunched up under the arm of the machine while it was stitching. I also noticed that the pegs aren't centered on the side of any of the hoops - even the original. When this hoop is positioned in the lowest 2 pegs there is some play in the lengthy, unsupported remainder of the hoop, which in my case, was accentuated by fighting the wadded up towel. I did the same design in different colors and with a different name on the second towel. I hooped it so that the largest portion of the towel hung off the left side of the machine freely as it stitched. I did have to remember to rotate all three design files. As a result I needed to begin the first file on the first two pegs on the opposite end of the hoop as the first towel. (This is where marking the design center on the towel and checking 1st stitch placement saved me a lot of grief). I made sure the towel was draped so that it would create the least amount of resistance against the hoop, and it stitched out MUCH better than the first. I am assuming the problem with potential hoop movement is why this machine is limited at 6.75" maximum length. Any more positions on the hoop would cause it to feel flimsy, and, for the hoop to fit under the foot and snap into position, the hoop can only be a certain thickness. I would buy these hoops again in a heartbeat and recommend them for getting the most embroidery area possible out of a PE500 or other 4x4" machine without the misery of re-hooping a project. Have fun and never lose your curiosity and enthusiasm for experimentation! ... show more

  • The hoops offer that little bit of versatility that you don't feel you have with just a 4x4 hoop capability!
Even though they are a generic Hoop set, they look feel, and work exactly like the hoop that came with my Brother machine! I love having the versatility that the three hoops offer for my 4x4 Brother. The small one works great for single letter monograms and or a mini emblem, using much less stabilizer. The extended hoop is great for a 4x4 file and then you can move it to the next set of hooks and add a name or short saying or a small file. I love these hoops! ... show more

  • Does the job.
Got these for my Baby Lock Sophia 2. Really needed the small hoop. While they seem to be of slightly lesser quality as the medium hoop that came with my machine. The screw that tightens the hoop on my original one is different, these ones it feels cheaper. So far, they work just fine.

  • Great Replacement Hoops
I bought these because the set included with my machine fell apart and it took Brother forever to send me replacement parts. I love having the 5x7 so there isn't any rehooping which can be tiresome. The only complaint is the large 5x7 hoop has a gap down the side where it connects to the machine. I used a thick tape and wrap the side until it had a snug fit with the material in the hoop. These were a life savor after the poor Brother customer service. ... show more

  • Good sturdy construction
I have not used these hoops yet as I have not learned to machine embroider but the hoops look like very good quality and compare favorably with the small hoop that came with my machine. The hoops are sturdily constructed and appear to be a good choice for the money spent.

  • Love the additional hoops
I purchased these hoops several weeks ago and love them, especially the larger repositional hoop. I have the Brother SE 625. It doesn't say they are for this machine but it is essentially the same machine as the SE400. They arrived quickly and are well made. I have used them quite a bit and have had no problems. ... show more

  • Won't fit in machine
It's possible I've received a defective product, but the 4x4 hoop and the lower half of the 4x6.5 hoop won't fit into my SE-400 machine. They won't snap in and if I try to push harder I'd likely break my embroidery unit, then they stick when I try to pull them back out. The top half of the 4x6.5 hoop and the tiny 2x1.5 hoop both snap in perfectly like they should at least, but if the entire large hoop isn't functional then it defeats the purpose of having the larger hoop. :( I unfortunately did not have a project which needed two hoops until after the return period, otherwise I probably would return these. Two star because the top half of the large hoop seems to be working alright for my project at the moment, but the rest isn't helpful. ... show more
