  • Reliable ESP32-S3 board with excellent performance and a handy 5 V rail
Model: 3-Pack All-Terminals Gold Kit
I recently picked up the Lonely Binary Gold Edition ESP32 development board and I've been pleased with how it performs in sensor and "IoT-type" (Data gathering with BT or Wifi requirements, not Lora) projects. What I like: Reliability The board has worked consistently in my deployments without hiccups. No weird resets, power instability or flaky USB connections. Performance / storage, According to the product specs, this version features up to 16 MB flash and 8 MB PSRAM (depending on variant). This gives plenty of room for code, and data/log storage, and upload to a web server. 5 V output for low-current sensors. In my setup I have a low-current draw sensor stack and the fact that this board provides a 5 V output (when fed via USB) means I could power the sensor directly from the dev board rather than add a separate regulator. This simplified wiring, especially for battery-/USB-powered deployments and while you're setting things up of course. (Note: always check current draw and board’s regulator specs to avoid over-loading.) Build quality & features The “Gold Edition” finish (black PCB, lead-free immersion gold, nice silkscreen) gives a premium feel. The dual USB-C ports (power + data) and external IPEX antenna variant also add to flexibility. Software ecosystem. Works with Arduino IDE, MicroPython and ESP-IDF so you have flexibility depending on how deep you want to go. What to watch / possible downsides: The claim of “5 V output” is often implicit (i.e., the board is powered by USB and the 5 V rail is present) rather than a dedicated high-current 5 V regulator designed for heavy loads. In other boards, drawing high current from the 5 V pin can be risky. If you rely on sensors/modules that need 5-V and draw significant current (e.g. large displays, motors, relays) you’ll want to check how much the board/regulator can supply, and perhaps add a separate supply. The board is very capable, but if you only need a simple ESP32 for basic 3.3V sensors there are cheaper boards that'll do the job. Documentation could be more explicit about board current limits, power-rail specs etc (at least I found some ambiguity). International shipping/South Africa: you’ll want to check import cost, shipping/delivery, warranty coverage etc Use-case fit (for me): Because I am running low-current sensors (e.g., environmental, wired via I2C, logging periodically) this board has been an excellent fit: I could feed the board via USB, use its 5 V pin to power the sensors, and rely on ample memory for firmware & data storage. For more demanding tasks (e.g., large displays, high current actuation) I’d still pair with a beefier external regulator. Final verdict: If you’re in the hobbyist/IoT space, want a stable, well-spec’d ESP32-S3 development board, and especially want the convenience of a 5 V rail (for sensors/modules) plus ample memory, this is a very good choice. The “Gold Edition” features add build-quality and flexibility (antenna, dual USB-C). Just be mindful of power draw on the 5 V rail, and ensure you don’t over-stress the onboard regulator. ... show more

Model: 3-Pack All-Terminals Gold Kit
Very good packaging, some useful starter code included. The dev boards are solidly designed and have a very bright rgb light. One thing to maybe consider is adding docs for debugging with platformio on the uart usb port. Other than that, a very solid package
