Overall, these seem great. I mean, with a smoke alarm you can't really tell how well it works until your house burns down. They were easy to install, and appear to be working. BUT there's something you should know: When you first put the batteries in (or remove the tab to activate the pre-installed batteries) the unit will beep VERY LOUDLY, and do so for nearly 30 seconds. (That's a long time to watch your children and pets run away in terror!) The instructions say the unit will "calibrate" when it starts, but it does not say that this calibration involves 85dB beeps that go on for so long that you will think the unit is defective. Pushing the Test/Reset button does nothing during this time, and if you panic (as I did) and remove the batteries, that only restarts the process. I think these are probably good alarms (they are certainly loud enough), but please warn your housemates when you are about to set them up. ... show more
