  • Works well for my purposes
I needed this for a simple project where I have to replace a few steps on some stairs. The 2x4's and 2x6's I get from the hardware store are always warped and very rough, and sanding just takes forever. I don't have a standard planer so I can't compare, but this electric planer worked very well. It did take me a while to figure out how to adjust the depth of the blade and get everything configured, but it's pretty easy once you figure it out once. I don't know what it's like using a standard planer, but this felt effortless. I got nice smooth surfaces afterwards. I did still have to sand but it was just a high grit finishing pass so it wasn't too bad. I feel like this tool is a little bit too niche for me to use often, so it'll probably collect dust for months between uses, but it's a nice tool to have in the collection. ... show more

  • Better options out there for the money.
The tool arrived well packaged, with a few accessories - cloth gloves, edge guide, tool wrench, extra set of brushes for the electric motor. Looking at the tool, I noticed that the vacuum port was only on one side and it was oblong, about 2in. which will make attaching a hose difficult. The dust port extracts to the right only, other tools give the option to select which side you want to have the chips expel from with a switching valve. The tool has an adjustment knob for setting the cutting depth, but has no type of indexing and the measurement marking really don't help. I had to use a straight edge to actually measure the cutting depth. Another down side to the tool was the rear "kickstand" that is found on most electric planers. The kickstand spring was very stiff and caused a hump on the surface of the material when planning. Yes, you can push down on the tool a little more, but the cutting plate has a slight knurled surface that causes it to dray on the material if too much pressure is put on the tool. Overall for the cost of the tool, there are way better options available, and some at a better cost. ... show more

  • Durable machine!
This unit reminds me of another big brand which is much more expensive. Although it looks like it they are 2 different brands. Having said that this does do a decent job and comes with the needed attachments and adjustments. They have to work on the instructions a little as some of the English is a bit broken. If you do know how to use this tool it is easy to figure out though. I can't say it is 16k of RPMs as the motor does not sound it but it does have a good amount of power and it it works fairly quickly. It is built pretty well and seems very durable for a long lasting tool. It even comes with the jig to keep you straight in line. If you drop a laser on the unit it would be even better! All in all for the price I think it has great value and could do just about anything the big name brand can do for a much better price point. Now the real test will be to see it's longevity. I would pick another tool up from this company! ... show more

  • Great value power tool
This 1/4-inch electric hand planer is a solid tool for basic woodworking and DIY projects. The high-speed motor (around 16,000 RPM) gives it plenty of power to smooth rough wood, shave down edges, and flatten boards quickly. Tools in this category typically use strong motors and hardened steel blades so they can remove material efficiently while keeping cuts relatively smooth. The planer is fairly easy to handle thanks to its compact handheld design, and the adjustable cutting depth helps when you need more precision for doors, furniture pieces, or small carpentry jobs. Many models also include a dust bag or chip outlet, which helps keep wood shavings from making a mess while you work. Overall, it’s a good value tool, powerful enough for DIY woodworking, home repairs, or hobby projects without being overly complicated to use. ... show more

  • Poor instruction manual, no safety manual, I could not get it to cut.
The 3-1/4 Inch Electric Hand Planer came well package, and easy to get out of the box. First impressions are that it is a well built tool that will come in handy for the projects I have planned. However I was not impressed the planer instructions. The instructions have many broken words and misspellings, but more concerning the instructions refer to another manual, "GB 3787 (The safety instructions of the hand-dheld electric tools storage, usage, inspections, and repair))", which was not included with the planar. Additionally the instruction state "6. The power voltage should be kept at 220v +- 10% otherwise it should damage the tool." The label on the planar says "110V- 600 W". I took the planar to the garage to trim down a 2x4 that I needed for a project. I then noticed there is no dust/chip collector, so any removed wood goes flying. I then did the adjustment, as indicated in the manual(?) to set the depth of cut. It was very difficult to adjust the front adjustment knob, it was very hard to move. I adjusted it by turning the knob fully clockwise and then trying the planar on the 2x4, it did not make contact with the wood. I then turned the knob fully counter clockwise and again it did not contact the wood. I was unable to do any adjustment that got the blades to contact the wood. On the rear of the planar there is a black plastic movable part that I cannot figure the use. When I was trying to trim the 2x4 I allowed the black plastic to make contact with the wood and then tried it again not letting the black plastic to touch the wood, no difference either way, I could not get the blades to contact the wood. There are several attachments included with the planar and there is no information on what they are used for or how to safely use them. ... show more
