Review: Withletune Magnetic Child Safety Cabinet Lock It’s been a long time since I had to worry about my offspring getting into drawers and cabinets, but recently the number of little people who’ve entered my world has increased from none to many. As a grown-up, I have a number of things that are pretty normal for grown-ups, but may be dangerous should they end up in the hands of the young-uns. In the kitchen, there is a whole drawer of things to cut or stab oneself with. In the bedroom, there is a drawer that contains various tools of destruction. With kids running in and out of my residence (and with 6 of them under 4 years of age), it’s important that I keep these things as unavailable as possible. This kit seems especially well-designed for people in my situation. The magnetic latches are designed to prevent drawer or cabinet opening without applying a magnetic “key” to “unlock” them. There are little catches that attach to the cabinet or drawer lip, and latches that normally swing up to engage them unless a magnetic field is applied to hold the latch open. The kit thoughtfully provides 3 powerful magnets (suitable for 3 locations) and little metal stickers that you can stick out of childrens’ reach and attach the magnetic keys to when not in use. Normally, magnetic latches like this are 2 or 3 in a pack, and securing multiple rooms worth of drawers and cabinets can end up with purchasing multiple packs (and thus, incurring a significant bill). This kit provides you with 12 latches for about the same price as the 2 or 3 latch packages. You can secure an entire kitchen-worth of cabinets and drawers, and still have enough latches left over to secure the bedroom’s nightstand and a few dresser drawers while not breaking the bank. The kit is also well thought-out. If you’re dealing primarily with young children, you can make the kit work with the rather powerful adhesives that stick the latches and catches. If you have slightly older kids, you can use screws (provided) to further secure them. Further, because alignment is important, they provide a jig to assist in mounting the latch-and-catch set. You pop the latch into the jig, attach a catch to its top, then hold the assembly in place and shut the cabinet or drawer. It holds everything together so that the adhesive can grab, then you can remove the jig, and everything just works. Summary: This is a very economical, well-thought-out set of child safety locks for securing cabinets and drawers. The locks are easy to align, and can be attached to the cabinet or drawer with supplied adhesives or screws, depending on how fiercely you need to lock it. They’re unobtrusive, and the kit provides you with extra magnetic keys so you can keep them handy in up to 3 locations. This was a great solution to my current need for secured storage. 5 Stars for great price and execution.

The Withletune Child Safety Magnetic Cabinet Locks is a good product, but installation has been a bear because of a very bad, extremely tiny print instruction "manual". (Note: There is a QR code on the instructions which might help that I didn't scan due to cyber security concerns.) I've had the locks out three different times trying to follow the first instruction in the manual which says to put three parts together. I found the hook lock and the part that goes on the door, but there was a third part that looked like it fit over the hook lock and that the part that goes inside the cabinet sits atop. There is no list of parts in the manual and I finally figured that two of the pieces had already been assembled as you can see that the hook part is slid into a slot on the flat part of the hook that gets mounted. This is wrong, but it's all that made sense to me at the time. I removed the backing and stuck the pieces on the bottom of the cabinet and on the door. Unfortunately, this didn't work as the lock was too close to the door's knob and the magnet couldn't get close enough to unlock. I removed both pieces (the adhesion hadn't gotten strong yet) and placed them on the side of the cabinet, then removed the hook part a couple more times as it had to placed far enough from the edge of the door for the door to close. I mounted the magnetic key under the cabinet, which was easy. There's a plastic circle that adheres to the cabinet and the magnet adheres to it. I put a lock sticker on the door where the magnet needs to be held to unlock and went to the office to write a review, figuring the adhesive needed to be left alone for 24 hours for maximum adhesion. Looking at the product's post for pricing before starting the review, I found better instructons, including a list of parts which I wish had been included in the box. There are actually two templates included, but you wouldn't notice them unless you completely emptied and sorted the box or looked at the video on the post. These are the third part for the initial assebly instructions. So, time to install on a second door using the template, but it didn't really help as it installed the lock part too close to the edge of the door for the door to close due to the hook. Took the hook off for reinstallation and wanted to line it up the the first installation's door so stupidly opened that door by pulling on it, which pulled the inside-cabinet piece right off. Yes, I should have used the magnet, just wasn't thinking, and once I get this one reinstalled using one of the extra sticky pads and it sets up for a day, pulling it open without using the magnet won't be doable. The second door is now aligned, installed and being left alone to set the adhesive. The post's instructions are much better than the manual, but still not enough to tell you about offsetting the lock, or maybe I just still don't understand the installation correctly. Even with the instruction problems, the product itself is good and well priced. It's invisible when the cabinet is closed. There is a generous supply of locks, fortunately some extra adhesive pads, three magnetic keys with holders and a set of screws in case you prefer them to mounting with adhesive. I rarely have children here, but live in earthquake territory and had much, much more expensive cabinet locks that required professional installation put into most of the cabinets when the house was built. These magnetic locks will be fine for keeping more cabinets from spilling all their contents during quakes. If the time ever comes when some of the younger great grandkids are going to stay for a few days I'll put these on the low kitchen and bathroom cabinets. I won't do that now as; though the post says the lock can be left unlocked when children aren't around; I haven't found a way to do that yet. I'll be installing more of these in upper cabinets and hope to get better at it as I go along. The fact that they can be installed without the need for a carpenter is a gigantic plus in itself and I'd recommend the product; which would have a five-star review if not for the problems with instructions.
