I got this thinking use in an aluminum smelter but it is wrong size and does not have the right hardware. The size is as described. Seems fairly sturdy but also does not really have much holding together so flakes off easily. I think if cared for decently this could be used for pire protection when soldering, welding, etc. I have seen people use tin foil but I think this would give a lot more protection if could be used. ... show more

Great stuff! I needed a section cut out to jam into the base of my electric smelter. The readout was starting to melt. Anyway, this is pretty heavy stuff, not a cheap version. FYI; if you ever want to keep heat at bay from non-rf heat source, you can make some flimsy starlite using 1 part clay slurry, 2 parts flour, 1 corn starch, 1sugar, 1baking soda. It's flimsy, but it'll deflect over 3600f, more without the clay slurry using water instead, but that makes it weak. After mixing, apply flame from propane or something to make it foam up. ... show more

I bought the insulation blanket for a pizza oven, however after installing it I noticed how great the blanket is at stopping heat and I decided to build a forge to pour die cast aluminum molds.
