  • Amazing Paddle
Color: Blue Hybrid Size: XL (Elongated Shape)
I absolutely love this paddle. I originally was using my friend’s Selkirk of the same paddle and finally bought my own. I love how the weight is distributed and the surface still allows for some good spin on the ball. I’ve had it for 3 days and 3 people have already told me they want to get this paddle next! Fantastic paddle for a relatively cheaper price. ... show more

  • Nice paddle but might not stand out too much for the price.
Color: Blue Hybrid Size: Max (All - Around Paddle)
I've held and tinkered with many different brands of paddles, and this is my first Selkirk. I had the non-elongated handle, and I'd say it's better for smaller hands. I have big hands, and they still fit, but other paddles have felt better for me. The surface has minimal grit, so don't expect the kind of spin you'll get from some other brands and more expensive paddles. Compared to a Joola Journey, this is a little more expensive, but it is also 3mm thicker. The ball pops well off the surface. I have both the hybrid and power versions, and it's hard to tell the difference. They are identical except for the surface material. This might just be in my head, but I would say the Power version maybe had a little more pop. There are a lot of paddles on the market in this price range. I don't think this is a bad paddle at all, but I can't I'm confident it stands out among the crowd. ... show more

  • Winner?
Color: Blue Hybrid Size: XL (Elongated Shape)
I am a pretty casual pickleballer....mostly because I am no longer as young as I used to be but I am still highly competitive. I do look for an edge and pickleball paddles are one place that you can get an edge over other players. For me, the surface of the paddle is at the top of my list as it gives me more control and ability to spin. At any rate...after having a chance to use this Selkirk EVO Power Hybrid, here are my thoughts: *Handle. Love it...it has a nice soft grip and slight tacky feel to it. Super comfortable. Ultimately, this will get dirty and will need to be cleaned but I can't argue with the color scheme. 5 starts for the handle. *Sweet spot. I tested this out a bit just hitting the ball around my home to get a feel for it and at the time, I thought it was definitely better than average. I swapped out paddles the last time I played and after I went to another paddle, I felt I got some improvement. With that said, the 2nd paddle was double the cost so not really an apples to apples comparison. I do think this hits the ball very cleanly, which over time, is less wear on your forearm and wrist, not to mention a bonus for your game. 4 stars. *Surface. This paddle is on par with those twice the cost....I really like playing with a paddle that has a rough, grippy surface. I tried to get a close up of the surface in one of my pics to show the texture, not sure if you can see what I am talking about. It almost feels like a fine grit sandpaper. I am able to get a ton of spin on my ball with this paddle....5 stars. All in all, I really like this paddle. I wasn't familiar with Selkirk before getting this paddle, but would definitely buy from this company again. This paddle could be used by anyone from a beginner thru advanced...and might be a good option for you if you're looking for a paddle that has a good sweet spot and lots of control. ... show more

  • Decent Paddle from a Good Brand
Color: Purple Power Size: Max (All - Around Paddle)
Selkirk Pickleball paddle. Evo Power Max All-round paddle. Weighs 222.5 g. Version I got is for all-round play, not the extra long version. Has a Carbon Fiber face with Fiberglass internal support. Has a rough texture that allows for some ball spin. Has a plastic edge guard that appears to be tight and doesn't move while swinging. Grip is made of a white leather-like compound that is nice and grippy, with a moderate width. This paddle has a good feel when swinging and ball play has a good feel, unlike other comperably priced no-brand paddles. I suppose it sometimes is good to get an item made by a known manufacturer, as their designs are better thought out than others, even if the units are made in the same production facility. Also, I really like the no nonsense looks of this paddle, with the purple accents. ... show more

  • Fantastic paddles for either power hitters or control players
Color: Purple Hybrid Size: XL (Elongated Shape)
Selkirk makes some outstanding paddles for intermediate to advanced players, and some pros players use them in tournaments. The SLK line is Selkirk's more budget-friendly line made in China. That doesn't mean the SLKs are budget paddles. For example, the SLK Halo is an outstanding paddle that's used by some pros. Review of the Evo Hybrid XL paddle: This paddle is supposed to be a blend or power, control and spin, but I consider the Hybrid XL to favor power at the expense of control and spin. Control and spin aren't bad with this paddle, but you do lose a little of both because power is the priority. When you're hitting with more power, you can't help but lose a bit of control. More power means less control; less power means greater control. And wow, does this paddle provide power! Groundstrokes and smashes are powerful, and even reaction shots near the kitchen line bounce off the paddle with authority. (Again, you lose a little control because the ball moves so quickly off the paddle face.) So if power is your game, this paddle will suit you very nicely. This paddle is 13mm thick instead of 16mm. 13mm paddles typically provide more power and feel lighter because they're thinner. Unfortunately, they also transmit more vibration up your arm because there's less material to absorb the impact, so if you suffer from tennis/pickleball elbow, you probably don't want this paddle. One thing I immediately noticed is that the grip is smaller than my other paddles. I checked the specs, and sure enough, the grip is 4 1/4 inches instead of 4 1/2 inches. For players with smaller hands, this size might feel more comfortable. For others who prefer a larger grip, you'll probably want to use overwrap. The paddle face is supposed to generate good spin, but that wasn't my experience. My 16mm paddles are noticeably more gritty and generate a lot more spin than the Hybrid XL. Topspin and slice are important parts of my game, so in this area I found the Evo Hybrid lacking. In my opinion, the Hybrid XL is not a paddle for brand-new beginners, and I'll tell you why. First, a beginner will have a hard time controlling the power and getting used to it. Second, it would be easy to let the paddle do all the work, preventing beginners from learning proper form and developing good habits. For example, when you're learning how to dink, you really don't want to be using a power paddle that could cause the ball to fly off the paddle face. It's similar to the tennis world where some hackers never learn to properly stroke the ball because their racquet does all the work and compensates for bad form. I recommend that a beginner start with a wider 16mm paddle. In summary, if your game is centered around power, this is an outstanding paddle. Or, if you're an intermediate player who wants more power and are willing to sacrifice a little control, stability and spin, the Evo Hybrid is definitely worth considering. For me, I value control, stability and spin over power, and my current paddles supply enough power to satisfy me. I've also had issues with tennis/pickleball elbow in the past, and I definitely feel a difference after hitting with this EVO Hybrid paddle. Review of the Evo Control Max paddle: Having tried the Hybrid XL, I was eager to compare it to the Evo Control Max. The two paddles share some construction features, but I feel like the Control Max addresses the things I didn’t care for in the Hybrid XL. The Control is wider than the Hybrid by about half an inch. This gives you a larger sweetspot, and it’s noticeably more forgiving on off-center hits. The Control is 16mm thick instead of 13mm, and again, this makes a huge difference. Hits feel softer, and although you do lose a bit of power, you gain better control. (See photos comparing the width and thickness of both paddles.) The Hybrid XL is slightly longer (again, about half an inch) and is geared to players who like to use a two-handed backhand or like the longer reach. (See photo comparing the XL to the Max grip length.) I found the difference between the XL and Max grips relatively insignificant. If I had to choose one over the other, I think the Max is best for most players who don’t consistently use a two-handed stroke. Spin is about the same for both paddles. I would have liked a bit more spin. The Control comes with the same 4.25 inch grip as the Hybrid. For me it feels slightly too small, so I’ll probably add overgrip. Where the Control paddle really shines is, as the name suggests, control. I felt way more in control using the Evo Control compared to the Evo Hybrid. Power in the Evo Control is adequate for me, and I never felt like I had to compensate or struggle to control the power. Touch shots felt much better with the Control as well. This is a paddle I would definitely recommend for beginners, and also for players up to advanced levels. The Control rewards good form and technique. It also compensate for mistakes (such as off-center hits, as I mentioned), but not so much that the paddle does all the work. In summary, both of these are fine paddles, but try to demo both so you can select the paddle that best suits your game. Preferences are highly personal, and you might have different impressions than I do. For me, the Control Max is the clear winner between the two paddles, but if you have a power game you’ll probably be quite happy with the Hybrid XL (or even the EVO Power paddle for MORE power.) ... show more
