I've tried secretly brushing one while the others are asleep in different areas of the house, but they inevitably wake up from across the house and bound over. They absolutely love it. I bought this product over other choices because of how cute it is. I'm a sucker for bright colors and most other brushes were dull and boring to me. I have two dogs, two cats. One of my dogs is a pom-chi with very coarse, thick hair and this doesn't penetrate his coat very well because of the short bristles. It works very well on my Persian cats with long thinner hair and my other dog with finer hair. I love how you can press the button and the fur comes out in an organized little poof versus with a regular brush the hair is just a crazy pile. Works well with shorter finer hair, would recommend looking for something else if your pet has coarse fluffy hair.
