  • Newest iPad Pro: Tips for much faster charging and more
Style: Wi-Fi Size: 256GB Color: Space Gray
I specialize in tech reviews and try to help buyers find the best gear at fair value. The 2020 iPad Pros have meaningful improvements I’ll detail below. A major one is much improved 10-hour battery life. But why settle for longer battery life when your new iPad takes forever to charge? Fortunately, there’s an easy fix: Apple is famous for marketing state of the art iPhones and iPads that unfortunately come with slow, subpar chargers. The new iPad Pros come with a ridiculously slow 18 watt charger. For under $30 you can ditch the slow Apple charger and fix the problem. However, with zillions of wall chargers out there, it’s easy for anyone’s eyes to get glazed over looking for which to buy. Here’s what to look for: IPAD PRO CHARGING BRICKS: Which to buy / Tips: It’s essential you get one labeled “USB-C Power Delivery.” This is also known as PD. For wattage, look for 30w and be sure the full 30 watts is coming out of the USB-C jack. Some have dual ports and might be labeled 36w but limit 18 watts to each jack. I’ve reviewed many PD chargers and have found that it is best to stick with reputable brands with warranties of at least a year, and up to two years. I’ve tested several and recommend Aukey, Choetech, Anker, and AmazonBasics. I have no relationship with any tech company. Use your USB-C to USB-C cable that comes with the new iPad Pros. No need to buy another cable. Below are some links: AUKEY: For under $25, this great model also includes an old fashioned but still useful USB-A jack. To get the full 30 watts to your new iPad, don’t charge a second device at the same time. The 24 month warranty is far better than most: https://www.amazon.com/AUKEY-Charger-Delivery-Dynamic-MacBook/dp/B083DD37W7/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=USB+C+Wall+Charger%2C+AUKEY+USB+C+Charger+30W&qid=1585825322&sr=8-1 CHOETECH: For just over $20, this 30w PD model is compact and great for travel with its foldable plug. The warranty is 18 months. It comes only in black: https://www.amazon.com/Charger-CHOETECH-Foldable-Compatible-Nintendo/dp/B083DM83BX/ref=sr_1_4?dchild=1&keywords=choetech+30w+pd+charger&qid=1585825382&sr=8-4 ANKER: Anker may be the best known of third party brands but its once stellar customer service is now frustratingly difficult at times. Yet, they make great products, although warranties are limited. This model is super compact, comes with 18-month warranty and is quite “Apple like” at under $30: https://www.amazon.com/AK-A2017121-27W-PD-1-Port/dp/B07DFGKFM3/ref=sr_1_3?dchild=1&keywords=anker+30w+pd+charger&qid=1585825876&s=electronics&sr=1-3 AMAZONBASICS: I like dealing with Amazon because their customer service is typically stellar. At under $30, this one will charge your new iPad PRO at 30 watts for highest charging speed and will also charge the latest USB-C Mac laptops at high speed. However, it is larger than the others and only carries a one-year warranty: https://www.amazon.com/AmazonBasics-Charger-Laptops-Tablets-Delivery/dp/B07PBCKXP7/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_product_top?ie=UTF8&th=1 SHOULD YOU BUY A PD CHARGER WITH MORE THAN 30 WATTS? Chargers with more than 30 watts WILL NOT give you faster charging unless you are also using it for a recent Mac laptop. Apple and most PC laptops require 45 watts for fastest charge. Recent iPhones only come with 5w or 12w chargers but need 18 watts with Power Delivery for fastest charge. So don’t toss the new 18-watt charger that comes with the new iPad Pro. Use it for your iPhone and you’ll be amazed it charges to 50% in just 30 minutes. IPAD PRO BUYING TIPS: SHOULD YOU UPGRADE TO A NEW 2020 MODEL OR NOT? For most power users, yes. The longer battery life as compared with earlier models is absolutely worth it. Apple is not stretching it when it says 10 hours although intense gaming will deplete the battery faster. For general users, maybe. The faster A12Z bionic chip is tremendously zippy but folks who are casual internet browsers will not notice the change. However, this model is fantastic as a laptop replacement with its support for Apple’s stellar Magic Keyboard, the Apple (and some third party) pencils, and the Smart Keyboard Folio. If you take pictures with your iPad, the camera is the best Apple has yet packaged with any device. Terrific. In this Covid era, it’s ultrawide lens is also great for live streaming of meetings. Speaking of meetings, the built in microphones surpass most laptops. For music listening, the new iPads deliver clean and pleasing audio, with surprisingly fine bass. Yes, your new iPad Pro can actually crank up the jams! Good to know if you are stuck in the house. IPAD PRO FOR GAMING: SHOULD YOU UPGRADE TO A NEW 2020 MODEL OR NOT? A giant YES! We have a family member who is quite successful in the gaming world. If you are coming from any other mobile device other than the 2018 iPad Pros, the 120 frames per second (FPS) frame rate of the new Pros must be seen to be appreciated. Silky, slick and so fast! No lag with a good internet connection. Games such as Fortnight have recently upgraded to support 120 FPS. If your favorite game supports it, a new iPad Pro is an absolutely terrific no brainer investment. CONCLUSION: I hope this long review has been of some help. I’m sending my very best to you and yours for health and prosperity, and better days ahead. The new iPad Pros are stellar, light as a feather, and Apple’s best ever for ultra fast speed, productivity, and laptop-replacing good times. ... show more

  • My last apple product was the Ipod Touch, But I love this tablet!
Style: Wi-Fi + Cellular Size: 512GB Color: Space Gray
I bought this device as a stop gap because I couldnt afford an art tablet like a wacom cintiq to replace my mobilestudio which has slowly become a bane in my artwork. And a cell phone to replace my lost one. I needed something I could start scheduling things for because I found myself being overwhelmed by all the things i needed to do manage and plan for. So I needed a mobile device to help me manage my life again, aswell as communicate with people on the go of course. And I really was desperate to replace my art station as my current work requires me to be able to do artwork, and altho I do believe the mobilestudio is a good device. Mine has been nothing but problems as of late, so im ready to replace it. As a mobile device, I honestly am blown away by this thing, and I honestly am asking myself why I havnt bought one sooner. See im not an apple user, ive been an android user since the original "Droid" phones motorola put out, and ive been a windows user all my life, ive only ever owned an ipod touch and an ipod nano, and only ever used a mac in one year of middleschool, so needless to say I am not an apple fanboy or even really an apple user at all. But when comparing all the other competitors I really have to give it to apple they are owning the tablet game right now. As far as I can tell there is no android competition that comes close to the specs and features of this device period. And the closest thing I can think of would be the windows surface series of devices, but altho they want to sell you on the idea of those things being more like a tablet then a laptop I can tell you they are just a laptop with a touchscreen, as i previously owned one and I found that altho it was nice at first to be using programs I trusted like photoshop to do my artwork, when you realize how hard it is to navigate through menus and such on a small screen with a stylus you will understand why I got rid of my surface pretty fast. Now I was worried that I wouldnt be a fan of the apple ecosystem , and that apple would be beating me over the head with proprietary services and it would be nearly impossible to make a simple workflow, so far this hasnt been true at all. So far ive had no troubles getting anything I wanted from my tablet to my PC even WITHOUT having a simple USB-C transfer cable. but with it, its as simple as can be. And ive actually been amazed to find apps that work perfectly to sync things between my pc and my tablet, so now I get notifications from my reminders I set on my tablet, popping up on my PC aswell! which is exactly what I wanted. As an art station, this is a tougher thing to go through. Not because I dont think this device is capable of doing practically anything you might want, but I think it really boils down to your personal workflow and what you want to do. For me this device accomplishes what I want it to do for my current projects and work. BUT I dont see it as a replacement for my passion works or for some later projects, I see it as a great way to accomplish them for the time being but being that I have been a photoshop user on PC using a wacom tablet for so long, I dont think there is a going back for me personally. That being said I actually really adore using procreate on this tablet to do some very realistic (feeling) pencil sketches for personal works, and ive been loving using this device for simple pixel art work for my current game projects. Altho I will say I havnt found an app I really really like for doing that just yet. Regardless, as I said I really think this comes down to workflow for your personal style, for some people this thing will be perfect, I think for alot of digital painters, and cartoonists this thing would be a happy replacement for a more expensive wacom tablet like a cintiq (which you also need a good computer to run) and I would whole heartedly recommend it over the mobilestudio pro anyday after having been stuck with it for so long. As its far more "Mobile" and runs smoother IMO, however I would still say a dedicated drawing tablet like a Cintiq setup to a decent computer will always outperform this thing. Which I dont think comes to anyone's surprise. Lastly mobility. I think this needs special mention as its one of the things I was worried about, and that im still having some troubles with (see the 4 stars in the portability above) As far as mobility its as mobile as you can ask for an 11 inch slab of electronics but I think it is much better suited to someone who wears a backpack or messenger bag or purse that can fit it, rather than someone like me who doesnt. For me I bought a cheap case so I could carry it around or toss it in a bag if I needed too without scratching it, and thats been working fine, but it is obviously a bit awkward to carry around with me everywhere. And I do think a case is a requirement for anyone with the apple pencil because the magnets altho strong enough to hold the pen, the second you bump into anything it will fly right off and at 125$ that is not something I wanna be banging around dropping or losing. So I would highly recommend a case, unless you have a dedicated spot in a backpack or bag that can hold the device so you wont lose the pencil. ... show more

  • Absolutely amazing tablet, that really does everything!
Style: Wi-Fi Size: 256GB Color: Silver
My daughter was always using my 2018 iPad Pro, because the art apps are crazy, and she is amazing with artwork. I would have loved to have upgraded myself, and have the Lidar sensor, that comes with the 2020 iPad Pro, but I bought it as a gift. The screen is stunning, and if I am going on the road, it is awesome to be able to keep up with texts, emails, and watch a streaming network, just by tossing the iPad in a lightweight carrying case. Like everyone, I couldn’t leave without my iPhone, but it is really refreshing to have the big screen, even for the usual cellular related tasks. When I want a break from the iPhone, I find myself relying on the iPad, even at home. As these keep getting better, they are even making laptops obsolete. I do enjoy having the versatility of a laptop for working, but the iPad is becoming a replacement for the laptop, even for me, which I never thought I would say. I don’t plan on giving up my laptops yet, but I am getting close with the iPad Pro. There really isn’t anything that I can think of, that I cannot do with an iPad Pro. It has become an invaluable part of my life. ... show more
