New farm new electric fence for deer deterrence. I run a mix of poly tape and 14 gauge wire. These will easily tension both. They also have a nut on one side that is easily loosened to release tension which is a good feature. I build my fence in two layers and as I don’t drive my posts very deep I have to periodically adjust tension. Running two strands in the outside and three on the inside run I’m using almost two miles of wire. Great price for a good product.

These tensions are well made and function as expected. Biggest complaint is they are difficult to loosened, but they can be loosened with a little effort. How To Loosen: First, don't wind a bunch of extra wire on the tensioner when first attaching and tightening them. Just enough to get it tight and secure. When you want to loosen it you will need a pair of pliers. Grab the round button that looks like it should screw on the end of the shaft with the pliers. Turn and pull at the same time and it will pop off. Now grab the end of the shift with the pliers and squeeze and push the shaft inward. Now you can loosen by turning the shaft with the knob. Once loosened, press the shaft back into place and replaced the removed round plug. I recommend you take one apart before you install them so you can see how they work. It works for me! Update: Another simpler way of loosening a tensioner is to use a pair of vice grips to squeeze the body of the tensioner together, in the middle, right above the shaft. Vice grips are nice because they lock in place. The knob and shaft will turn freely. Pliers will work, but it will probably require two people. It also helps if the plastic tensioner is warm because the plastic is more flexible and will bend easier.

These are plastic not metal. There is no way to loosen it to back it out. Only gets tighter and thats it. I was gonna use these for my tomato plants for cables to support the vines and fruit. End of season I was gonna loosen them and put them away til next year. Gonna have to return these and spend more money on metal ones I can loosen. Maybe I missed it somewhere where they mentioned plastic. Another reviewer wrote it has a nut I can loosen. I tried. It does not.
