Very pigmented and good quality. I no trouble using straight away to paint not having to thin.

  • Thinner paint for delicate work especially on models, a good basic set.
Mrs Aloha Friday is the artist in the family, and she tested the acrylics on a rock - one of her favorite substrates. I like to paint models for my holiday train scene, and had this vintage one that Mrs AF asked me to freshen up, and make to look like one of our grand nieces in Hawaii because her hairstyle is similar. Here are our findings. The brushes are cheap, but they did a great job if you're just starting out and don't want to spend about the cost of the whole kit on a single brush. ;o) Model paint is thin so you can get it into tiny spaces. That's why thinner is included, though neither of us found it necessary. You can't have thick, gloppy paint for delicate work. The thin quality isn't a negative, but it does mean you may need a few coats on larger, smooth surfaces, like Mrs AF's rock. Not that she'd use these for her rock painting, just wanted to show you what I meant. She also uses larger bottles, and especially loves acrylic paint pens. You get tiny bottles of model paint because you don't need much. The paint blends just like acrylic should, so you can create an unlimited number of shades with this set. There's even a metallic gold and silver included. Mix them together for bronze or copper. As another reviewer said, some of the caps are hard to twist off the plastic breakaway seal, so you may need pliers or grippy gloves. The colors are vibrant and rich, and semiglossy. You'll use a lot of yellow, so it's not an oversight that there are more of those shades than anything else. It's just like printer ink - you run out of yellow first because it's used to make more colors. You'll add it to the rust, the brown, the red, etc, to lighten them and warm them up. You'll add yellow to blue for green, and add it to green for all the warm, olive shades. If you're not sure how to mix colors, try a book or video on it. Understanding the colors will give you the most mileage out of this set. Acrylic is easy to use - washes with water. Under $25 is a good value. ... show more

  • If you are considering these paints, I suggest trying them out.
This review is for the 20 Colors Model Paint Set, Model Acrylic Paint Set for Brush & Airbrush Use. At the time of my review, this pack of 20 colors is priced at $23.99, which is a good value for the money. The paint colors are bright and vibrant. The bottles make dispensing the paint easy. The paints go on smooth, has decent coverage, and dry about as quickly as I'd expect acrylic paint to dry. This set comes with a few paintbrushes that I do NOT recommend using if you're doing serious painting lol. These brushes are for crafts only. This is a nice assortment of paint. Toss these in a gift bag with some better quality brushes, a few canvases, and a paint tray, and you'll have a great gift for budding artist. If you are considering these paints, I suggest trying them out. ... show more

  • Perfectly good acrylics for model painting
ASIN: B0GVM9L1B9 $23.99 (discounted to $21.99) 20 Colors Model Paint Set, Model Acrylic Paint Set for Brush & Airbrush Use 0.7oz/20ml, Includes 3 Brushes & 1 Thinner, Ready to Use, Miniature Paint Set for Models, Gaming Figures, Crafts, 3D Paints Description: This model-painting set includes 20 colors of acrylic paint in 20 ml bottles, three detail brushes, acrylic thinner, and a color wheel. The paints are formulated for brush or airbrush application and can be used on plastic, resin, wood, metal, 3D prints, and other craft surfaces. Review: I have been painting models for a very long time, and my personal preference is still enamel paint. Properly applied enamel is exceptionally durable, and I have models painted with it decades ago that still look good. That said, there are plenty of reasons people prefer acrylics, and these are completely adequate acrylic model paints. The paints have good pigmentation, go on smoothly, and provide nice coverage without obscuring the small details that are the whole point of painting a model in the first place. The assortment of 20 colors gives you a useful palette to work from, and the included thinner makes it possible to adjust the consistency for different applications. I also appreciate that the set includes three brushes, so someone who is just getting started has essentially everything necessary to begin painting. I still wouldn't personally choose acrylic over enamel when longevity is my primary concern, but that's a preference rather than a problem with these paints. If you prefer the easier cleanup and handling of water-based acrylics, this is a nice, versatile set. At about $22 with the current coupon for 20 fairly generous 20 ml bottles plus the accessories, I think it's a very good value. ... show more

  • Nice Colors, Thin Paints.
I have been painting minis for a couple decades now. It relaxes me and makes for some impressive gifts. My roommate wants to learn so I decided to get her a set of paints to learn with. This is what I ordered. They come with a nice array of colors and a bottle of acrylic medium. It is referred to as 'thinner' but we thin with water most of the time. I will occasionally glaze using acrylic medium to thin, not often. The set would have been better served with a bottle of primer instead of 'thinner'. The brushes it came with are bad. Spend a couple bucks on a synthetic #4 if you are just starting out. The paints are very thin. Expect to use multiple coats to gain opacity while maintaining a good finish. ... show more

  • Not bad if you use it for the right purposes
I'm in a phase where I've become somewhat of a paint hoarder. I do many different types of crafts and I truly haven't found a 'one size fits all' brand of paint. As a result I see and I order anything I haven't tried yet. I'm also just learning how to use an airbrush, so naturally these struck my interest. My first impression of this paint is that it's comparable with most of the [small bottle] paint sets out there that are marketed for use with airbrushes. It's thinner (thus more opaque), but the colors are vibrant in ways you don't often get with craft paint. This is not an all purpose paint. It does work for painting models and it's viscosity makes it great for detail work, but as is true with most thinner paints you may need to go back in and add another cote. I wouldn't recommend this for larger projects such as a jewelry box if you're only using a brush. I haven't tried it with my airbrush yet, but the consistency and colors seem that it would do fine. I always recommend straining the paint first and thinning to the consistency of skim milk before using in an airbrush. Considering the price point, the colors and the quantity, I'd say this is well worth a try. ... show more

  • Nice Starter Kit
This 20-color model paint set is a great starter kit with a nice variety of colors. Everything arrived without any leaks, and the assortment covers most of the colors you’ll need. Any shades that aren’t included can easily be mixed using the existing paints, which makes the set even more versatile. The paint goes on smoothly and is easy to work with, though I would definitely recommend priming your model first for the best results. The included brushes aren’t anything special, but they work well enough with the paint to get started. My only complaint is that the paint has a slightly strong smell while you’re using it, but it wasn’t enough to keep me from enjoying the set. Overall, it’s an easy-to-use paint kit that I’d recommend for model building or other small painting projects. 5 for arriving as pictured - 0.5 for the smell = 4.5 Stars ... show more

  • Great Quality Paints for About $1 a Bottle
At the current price of about $1 per bottle, these are really good-quality paints. Yes, you can find cheaper acrylic paints, but I haven’t found many at this price with the same quality and consistency. This particular set comes with all the right base colors I use very frequently, so the color range matches my needs very well. Acrylic generally has a pretty quick drying time, these are properly thinned, so the drying time is also fast so you can get to the next layer or coat pretty quickly. I’ve used these both on my palette with a brush and in my airbrush, and they work well for both. The included brushes and thinner are a nice bonus, too. Overall, I’m very happy with these paints and would definitely recommend them for models, gaming figures, and other hobby projects. ... show more
