  • Works flawlessly with desktop and laptop at 4k!
Size: 2x2 HDMI
I recently upgraded to a pair of 32" 4k LG monitors ( https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0748KJY4Q/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01__o00_s03?ie=UTF8&psc=1 ) and needed a KVM that would handle a dual-head setup. I had looked at all the DisplayPort offerings, but apparently DP cannot handle KVMs very well, with issues like resolutions being lost, monitors "forgetting" application window and icon locations, and a long list of other complaints. My previous setup was a pair of 27" monitors using an IOgear DVI-D KVM which has been rock solid for about 10 years. I figured it would be easy to find a dual-head HDMI KVM. Well, I was wrong! I have spent over a MONTH looking at every single KVM I could find, and must have viewed a combined total of 200 product detail pages! I looked at speciality sites, overseas sites, and scoured Amazon. I could find nothing that had a reasonable number of positive reviews where at least half the customers were not complaining about issues that would clearly affect me as well. If I could find one, it was $600 or more and was a rack mount unit! I gave in and bought a $500 IOGEAR Dual HDMI KVM GCS1322TAA3. Well, that rack-mount monster showed up and right away one of the HDMI ports did not work, plus it needed three sets of special $90 cables! That would have been $800+ for a KVM, the cost of my monitors! It also did not support a wireless keyboard or mouse. That was returned! Then this CKL KVM showed up on Amazon, and it looked great, even though there were only 4 reviews at the time. I went to order it and it was sold out! I finally found it for sale on another site, and then it was sold out too! I finally got lucky and the manufacturer had ONE for sale so I snatched it up. They shipped it from China using DHL so while it took a week to show up, it was pretty quick - they even delivered it on Presidents Day (a holiday for many shippers). Installing was a breeze. I got everything plugged in and fired up my setup. I set the resolution to match my monitors and it worked, but my monitors were flashing an "Out of range" message. I went into my monitors and changed a setting and it worked fine. I switched to my laptop and that worked fine as well. I could not believe how easy it was, and the price is great! My setup: (1) Custom PC with an Nvida GTX-970 outputting through one native HDMI port, and out one DisplayPort port with a DP-to-HDMI adapter. Works perfectly. (2) Dell Latitude 5580 through USB-C to Dell D6000 docking port, outputting through on native HDMI port, and out one DisplayPort port with a DP-to-HDMI adapter. Works perfectly on one monitor, but I currently can't get the other DisplayPort output to run full 4K even though I had it working initially! However, this is a very locked-down work computer so I suspect it's not a KVM issue. Bottom line, YES I RECOMMEND THIS. PROS: * Works exactly as expected. * Includes 4 cables (for my dual head, dual port version) - two (2) standard HDMI cables, and two (2) "combo" HDMI cables. These combo cables are kind of cool - they have an HDMI cable, USB, and audio plugs on your PC side which is to be expected, but then on the KVM end there is *only* the HDMI plug. Apparently the KVM takes all those signals across the HDMI connection and then splits them out as needed. That simplifies the connections at the back of the KVM considerably, and is much more neat than my last KVM which looked like spaghetti. * The instructions are very understandable, with only a few items that are confusing at first. If you read through it 2-3 times it becomes pretty clear how to make things work. * There are a lot of neat features. For example, you can choose the "hot key" to be CTRL on the left or right side of the keyboard, or change it to SCROLL LOCK or NUMLOCK. You can disable the beep sound. You can reset the KVM via hotkeys. You can switch to a specific PC (1 or 2 in my case, but 4 if you get the 4 port version) or switch between what is turned on by double-clicking the middle mouse button. * This EXTENDS my Windows 10 desktop, allowing me to have different content on each monitor. * It is pretty small. I have it sitting on the back of my desk, but I could probably use double-sided tape and stick it under my desk as well. * It included everything I needed to get up and running EXCEPT the set of HDMI cables to my monitors. However, I had those already so I doubt this is an issue. * While directions are included, they also have a sticker right on top with the basics! * It is just so simple there's nothing more to say - it works as expected, it was a great deal at $129, and it is easy to use. CONS: * The included cords are a little short. Instead of a typical 6' long, they appear to be 4' or 5' long, which might be an issue if you want to put the KVM somewhere besides right on your desk. Check my other reviews as well, I'm a real customer, and I *refuse* to buy anything that has the hint of a fake review. ... show more

  • EXACTLY what I was looking for!! (UPDATED 10/14/20 - not as happy) UPDATE: 12/9/20 - BAD!!!
Size: 4x2 HDMI
UPDATE 12/09/20: DOWNGRADING! I have continued to have issues with the one monitor I was still using thru the box. It would go black now and then for 1-3 seconds. Really annoying when you're coding or writing email, etc. Not a huge monitor or anything - 24-inch ThinkVision, pretty standard. I finally hooked that up directly to my desktop with a DP cable. Now, the monitor is just fine! BUT, this reduces me to using the KVM switch as a K switch only - makes it a VERY EXPENSIVE solution to sharing a keyboard between two systems. I would have been WAY further ahead to buy a small second keyboard for the second system - I already have a trackball for the laptop and it's on its own monitor. I am giving this one star now. It's not junk - it might work for some people, but it's certainly not doing what I bought it to do. And it was, as you can tell, not cheap to purchase. UPDATING 10/14/20 - Still trying to be a fan of this box, but have seen some issues that didn't show up right away. I have a 24" Lenovo ThinkVision and a 32" LG monitor hooked up. Previously, the LG was Mon A and Lenovo Mon B. I have 1 HDMI and 3 DP ports on the card - HDMI going to Mon A on the box and DP-to-HDMI cable going to Mon B. Had some problems setting up the LG but eventually managed to get it to 2560x1440 as it should be. Still, getting a message on the monitor saying it was not set to the right resolution and it started to blank out for a second or so now and then - sometimes more now than then. Almost like a strobe at times. Swapped the monitors and the blanking went away on the LG and the Lenovo stayed fine. BUT, could not get the card to recognize the LG correctly and let me set the resolution. After much messing with the card and reinstalling MSI Radeon software several times, I finally connected the LG monitor directly, bypassing the KVM switch. This is okay because I really only need the A connection to switch keyboard and mouse to a laptop now and then. The laptop has a separate monitor plugged directly into it. Once I did that, the LG was seen correctly by the card, all issues went away and I could set the resolution correctly. Also, the message on the monitor itself that the resolution was not correct has gone away. BUT, the Lenovo, which previously had no issues, started to blank out now and then. Not nearly as much as the LG was having, but enough to be annoying. I'm living with that because I need the KVM to the laptop now and then, but I'm certainly not as happy with this box as I could be. It seems that the more "normal" monitor is okay, but the pass-thru to the gaming monitor was not good at all. I have also downgraded from 5 stars to 3 stars. I'm not sure if there's something wrong in the box, but bypassing it solved many issues. Not really what I wanted to do, though. (Original) I was replacing a very old 4-port, dual-monitor VGA switch. Upgraded my desktop, better monitors and my work laptop to deal with. This is fantastic! Does exactly what I need. It was easy to reset the hotkeys and turn off the beeps. I usually use the hotkeys to switch, but the manual switch is nice to have, too. It was great to have the cables in there. If I had one complaint, it's that the cables are not overly long and when you want to set up 4 different machines, it would be nice if they were a couple of feet longer to reach a bit farther away. ... show more
