Perfect fit- Struts on my 2018 Model 3 no longer lifted the trunk lid all up. With the springs installed, really hard to close trunk, had to slam closed. I didnt care about the automatic trunk open. It was very easy to remove the springs; just unscrew the attachment point. These are great replacement for worn struts-for the very low price compared to Stabilus OEMs! I installed these wanting the auto open feature. They worked great for about a year, however, recently driving through Baker CA I heard a thud, when we arrived in primm I found the the driver side strut had exploded after opening the trunk and it wouldn’t hold open. When I tried to close it the C post and trunk collided (being out of alignment from unequal pressure) denting the hood and horizontal roof pillar and paint in the contact areas was stripped to the metal. After receiving a quote of over $2,700 for repairs from Tesla I have ordered new factory struts in hope of being able to fix the trunk and trunk alignment issue myself and only need the body shop for paint. ... show more

Installing it was my fear since I don’t have mechanic/auto body skills at all but all it took was a flathead screwdriver and some patience. My issue with it is that it makes the trunk so hard to close. I’m used to it now after a month but it has so much unnecessary resistance. I also think the spring pops the trunk up too fast. These struts were made for a trunk lid that is twice as heavy as the one on my M3. ... show more

Opens my trunk, doesn’t do it too fast. It is a little harder to close, but not too bad. It’s worth having the auto-open when your hands are full or for pickup deliveries, etc.

About 3/4" shorter than the OEM ones for a M3 and usable with or without the springs. However, the trunk still does go up close to the original height and is still very usable.

    • Cheap piece of junk
Worked well for 4 months, then suddenly today collapsed, split in half, fell off the trunk hinge, and the trunk smashed into my rear moonroof cracking it..... costing me thousands. Not worth it!
