    • Take that, gym thieves!
I bought this lock after an incident at the gym. I had been using a standard dial padlock (you know, the SUPER common one with a name that rhymes with "blaster"). Well, I came back from working out to find my locker open. I thought "Wait, what? Did I not lock my lock?" Nothing had been taken, but every pocket on my gym bag had been gone through, my stuff was all over, and my lock was GONE. Ew! It only takes a mere matter of a couple of seconds to get into that dial "blaster" lock. It's really "security theater" for sure. Not only that, but every other lock in the locker room was gone, too, except for one that looked like a FortLock. That got my attention! We immediately got rid of those locks and after a bit of online digging, got these. It was easy to set my own combination. There are instructions included that were easy to follow. This lock isn't as susceptible to shimming (the common method to get into that other lock), and so far I haven't had a problem since. HOORAY for FortLock! The numbers on the dial are pretty large, so use discretion when dialing your combination if others are present. The dials "slot" well and the lock feels like it's pretty heavy duty for a gym lock. Any padlock CAN be broken into with enough time (or a bolt cutter), but since I doubt that gym thieves are walking through the lobby with a bolt cutter, I'll take the FortLock. If they can't shim it in a few seconds, they're going to go on to the next target. Get a FortLock, too, so the "next target" isn't your locker! ... show more

    • Easy but are they durable?
Purchased because we needed locks that wouldn’t rust out over time due to high humidity/moisture and we liked the promised ease of setting the 4-position lock codes. The locks seem sturdy so only time will tell regarding their lifespan in wet environments. The code-setting procedure requires a small-head Philips driver to remove a door at the bottom of the lock and reveal a “set” switch: not arduous and certainly easier than the procedure for many competitors, but is that really secure? ... show more

Very nice lock with large numbers, easy to see the numbers, good contrast between the white numbers and black background. Very easy to set your choice of code. The only reason I gave this 4 stars and not 5 stars is because one of the two locks arrived with no “set button cover”, which is a small black cover that goes on the bottom of the lock to hide the button used for setting your own code. ... show more

While the lock works and is decently made, resetting the combination has proved to be painful. You have to proceed exactly as the instructions say otherwise the lock stops working.
