I have a powerful laser engraver, which is both amazing and slightly terrifying. To contain the light and fumes, I constructed a high-tech enclosure for it out of heavyweight cardboard. My sophisticated setup was missing one key component: a safe way to see what was happening inside. I was tired of fumbling with safety glasses, especially when other people would walk into the room, unaware of the potential for an eyeful of high-intensity light. I found this 12x12 inch laser safety window shield and decided it was the perfect upgrade for my cardboard fortress. The shield arrived as a rigid, dark green plate. It felt solid and looked professional, which was a nice contrast to the rest of my setup. I carefully cut a hole in the front of my cardboard box and mounted the shield. It was a perfect fit. I now had a proper viewing port. I was no longer just a person with a laser in a box; I was an operator with a control center. I powered up the laser for a test run. The difference was incredible. Looking through the shield, the dangerous, bright dot of the laser was reduced to a completely harmless, visible point of light. I could clearly see the engraving process, watch for any problems, and monitor the progress without squinting or worrying about eye damage. It is actually much better than wearing the safety glasses, which can sometimes obscure the details of the work. This safety window is a fantastic product. It does exactly what it's supposed to do: it filters out the dangerous wavelengths of light while allowing you to see your project. It’s an essential piece of safety equipment if you have a laser engraver, especially if you build your own enclosure.
