Don’t bother

Old review with 2 stars: “Rechargeable batteries” went out 3 months after use while I was putting in a root in a full penetration weld that gets tested. I use the lens often enough for it to hold a charge. Sensors aren’t good enough, I have flashed myself several times while finishing a vertical weld inside a beam. When sensors are not going off the lens is very dark and hard to see out of compared to other lens. The color is very, very blue which isn’t very pleasant to be looking at all day. I’d prefer a less intense blue and more of an HD clear/gold color or at least a lease intense blue. Overall pretty disappointing, I bought ON SALE for $79.99, it is now $59.99 and on sale for $49.99. Kind of a rip off if you ask me. Might as well spend the extra money on a quality lens you know won’t die out in a few months or flash you so often. This lense will technically get the job done but wouldn’t recommend someone who welds full time. Updated review with 1 star after customer service reached out: I applaud the customer service here but you simply can’t polish a turd. They offered me a full refund and offered to send me 2 different lenses to try out. I was impressed with that and loved the opportunity to give them another shot. I was sent the heir lens and another prince lens when I was told they’d send me a different lens. Oh well. Still having issues of being arc flashed mid weld in tight spots. This has happened to me several times while putting on roots in tested full penetration welds. This affect my productivity at the shop I work at and is very frustrating when I have to grind something because I nearly go blind. If you are working on a flat surface with no tight spots, sure get this lens. But if you work in an environment that demands high quality work, this lens is simply a safety hazard. Durable, Reliable, Efficient and Cool Looking

Put this into my Wendy’s pancake and it slipped right in. The gold color and the red hood design looked great for my liking and the visuals of the puddle and shade were excellent. Changing your shade and sensitivity are easy as can be and this lense is great.

Good for welding not good for gouging

I like this lens for welding, the clarity is pretty good. As far as colors go I’m not sure one is better than another I welded with green lenses for years. The reason I deducted a star is because it’s not good for air arc gouging. It’s not sensitive enough and would end up flashing me. Also it has stayed charged the whole time I have had it no issues with dead batteries ... show more

I’ve been welding for a while, and this welding lens is easily one of the best upgrades I’ve made to my gear. The clarity is outstanding, both in light and dark states. It makes a huge difference when trying to see fine details. The lens also has great color clarity, everything looks sharp and natural. This has improved both my accuracy and comfort, especially during long welding sessions. It fits perfectly in my hood, stays secure, and doesn’t fog up or get scratched easily. Here is a genuine transparent review from a career welder with 15+ years in the industry. I have ran many different styles of hood over the course of the years that I’ve been welding. Lincoln, Miller, speed glass, ESAB… you name it. Most recently I decided I wanted to start looking into sugar scoops. The current place that I am working at I work 12 hour shifts five days a week. I’m getting older now and my neck and upper back between my shoulders has really become an issue. I looked at new pillows, so on and so forth and stumbled into a new realm of “It’s probably the weld hood you wear all day, It’s heavy” So after a lot of research, countless reviews multiple companies… I decided to give Ridge products a try, it was customer reviews, but if I’m being transparent, it was really because of the price point. Sugar scoop hoods can range wildly from around the price point that ridge products has them priced at(70$) to well over $300. I didn’t feel like throwing another $300or $400 at a weld hood to have it not perform any better than the current $400 Lincoln that I have. I picked up the throne 1.0 and the Duke auto darkening 1.0 lens from Ridge products. The pictures that I am posting are after one weeks worth of use, I’m going to list both pros and cons that I have found with this product: 1. It encompasses the entirety of my face better than any other style of hood that I have worn. My ears and my throat sit inside of this hood. It blocks out most of the surrounding residual light and deflects the majority of the fumes coming off of the weld. 2. The headgear that comes with the 1.0 initially seemed to be something of subpar quality due to the absolute zero padding on the back end where the tension knob is located. But to my surprise, I can wear this all day long without any fatigue or headache developing. 3. The Duke lens is red on the exterior and in the pictures. It shows to have a true color clear view while Welding, this is not the case it is blue. Which isn’t necessarily a problem, but it is definitely false advertisement. The company boasts “industry leading clarity” in regard to these lenses. I’ve only tried one, but in my humble opinion, it is a standard level of clarity. That’s not to say anything negative because I believe it to be on par with the clarity of the lens in my $400 Lincoln Welding hood. So in that respect an $80 price point makes that worth it. But by no means are they leading the industry in clarity. I would add that they should have at least four sensors two on top two on bottom. 4. The 1.0 hood comes with the feature of a flip up retainer for your lens whether you wanna run a passive single shade or an auto darkening lens. The retainer clip seems to be useful but flimsy. I like the low profile of the 1.0 and it’s why I purchased it rather than the 2.0 as it sits closer to the face and I was trying to get away from a forward heavy situation. As standard default out of the box if you’re running an auto darkening lens in this hood, you are left with a “three clear lens” set up. There is one lens that is outward facing towards your work, one on the backside of the lens itself, and lastly There is a clear lens on the interior of the hood itself. I have found this to be a bit redundant, but also problematic. Anybody who has been in the industry for any length of time will know that these clear plastic lenses regardless of manufacturer are the softest most scratch-able material that there is. They cannot be cleaned once they are dirty or dusty. You need to throw them away and change them out for new ones. Any attempt to try to clean them even with a lens wipe or moist towelette is only going to scratch it so badly you will not be able to see through it. That being said having three clear lenses on this set up is creating a refractory issue. I have three halo reflections of my puddle constantly. There is nothing I can do to try to avoid this other than to takeoff one of the lenses on the interior of the hood, whether it be the one at the very inside, which will protect any stray spatter that makes its way inside of your hood or the one off of the lens itself, which doesn’t seem to have any replacements available anywhere online even through the company. Poor design choice in my opinion. 5. The hood itself is clearly made out of the cheapest available ABS plastic that China can produce. It is extremely heavy for absolutely no reason, and I will likely be doing a double chopped situation both to the bottom and to the top and adding some sort of a leather riveted beard and top cap. 6. Several of the comments that I had seen from previous people that had purchased the products and had any kind of issues with it The customer service from the company themselves seem to be well above par for the industry, meaning they would respond immediately and try to make it right. Myself personally have tried to reach out both email. I called their customer service phone number no one answered and the message that was given said that the number also can receive text messages so I text messaged them. I have not gotten any response whatsoever from the company. Furthermore, once you purchase one of their products you get a QR code card that is in the box with the lens that says to scan it so that you can get free clear lenses. I followed the steps to register my product for warranty and get the clear lenses, now my employer provides 2” x 4 1/4” clear lenses in bulk so it’s not something I’m really worried about but the fact that it’s offered and hasn’t been followed up on or communicated in any way and seemingly there’s no way to actually get a hold of anyone at Ridge Products it would probably be upsetting to some people. All in all if I had to do it again, I would say that I would probably go with another company and pay a little bit extra because I’m gonna have to pay extra money to modify this hood to make it something that’ll not destroy my neck, 3 out of 5 stars ... show more
