This inverter was very easy to connect to the grid and my main fuse panel. We have been very happy to have this connected after several power outages. Neighbors were calling us to see why we still had lights and they did not. I have it connected to two banks of 48 volts. That will provide 400AH at 48 volts when we lose power. The only negative thing I can say about this panel is it is limited to the amount of solar power that can be connected. I will need to purchase a second inverter to take care of the surplus solar panel input. I love how it works and am very happy with the smooth transition from battery to inverter. I love this inverter and would recommend it to anyone looking for power independence. We will be producing more power than we need, and I have peace of mind with this terrific inverter. ... show more

I chose this low frequency inverter after considerable research into the various technologies. It is my second Sungold Power inverter. The first is a 6kW model which I bought as a trial to see how solar off grid would work for me and if it was feasible. I was amazed that the smaller inverter could power the whole house better than my 13kW generator. Seeing how well that inverter works, I decided to expand my solar PV system to 14kW of panels and to invest in the largest inverter Sungold offers: this 18kW LF sinewave inverter. It's a very capable inverter and may be overkill for a lot of households, but since I have some heave loads that challenge even 200 amp grid service, I decided to go with this monster sized inverter. I can report that running on this inverter feels just like grid power. The lights don't flicker when a large load comes on, such as the well pump. It handles my 20kW surround sound system, even at volume levels sufficient to shake the ground outside. I can tell you that 3X surge capacity is real and it WILL deliver immense amounts of current even when loaded up with big loads. Just last week I did a load test. This is a situation that never happens in real life, but I wanted to see how the inverter handled every appliance and load turned on at once. So I turned on the electric clothes dryer, all four stove burners, the oven on preheat so both heating elements are on, plus the rest of the normal loads, consisting of computers, test equipment, a music recording studio full of gear, etc. All of that and the inverter reports 97% load on its display, yet the line voltage is maintained, and the inverter just chugs along effortlessly. Normally the inverter load is around 3% in the fall months and 18-23% in summer when all the air conditioning is running. Now here the the more critical nitpicks: The included AC fan is noisy. I had to replace it with a much quieter and very expensive ($100) fan and I built a fiberglass shroud to absorb any remaining fan noise). I had reported the issue to Sungold along with the invoice for the fan and they reimbursed me the FULL cost of the quieter fan! That one gesture told me the caliber of company I am dealing with here. Minor nitpick: there is no monitoring of the PV charger. I remedied that with a Drok amp/volt meter with Hall Effect Sensor placed around the PV positive wire. The meter calculates total PV wattage going in, and gives me a good gauge of the solar charging. Very minor nitpick: the voltage display is in 4 volt increments. It has something to do with the bit depth of the ADC used to sense voltage and convert it to a digital readout. My other nitpick is that this inverter, like all inverters, emits radio frequency interference, which is only a problem if you're a HAM radio enthusiast. Out of the box, when this inverter was first installed, I had 20dB over S9 noise on the 75m HAM band. I was able to get that down to around S7 by clamping on dozens of mix 31 ferrite chokes. Once you get up to 40m band, the noise is completely gone. Last nitpick is more on me than on Sungold: this unit is heavy and you have to get creative to lift it for wall mounting. I installed a 2x10 beam to the wall above it and two heavy duty hooks rated at 350lbs each. I mounted another block on the opposite wall and put a huge pair of hooks in it. Then I rigged 1/8" steel aircraft cables to the mounting ears of the inverter while it sat on a 1000ib capacity dolly. These cables were attached to the hook of a come-a-long winch. I used the winch to pull this inverter up into position and finally bolted it to the wall. Major nerves and a lot of sweating, but I got it done. The bottom line is, this inverter is priced well and very solidly built. The technical support is excellent. I called the guy a couple of times with questions about the built in PV charge controller and he listened and understood my questions and explained how the device worked and cleared up any concerns I had. It is rare that a company has a tech support agent that is fully conversant in English, doesn't rush you, doesn't waste your time with silly "identify the customer" questions, and who knows the product intimately and can explain how it works. In summary, it is not a perfect inverter (no inverter is), but in the areas where it matters, it is reliable, provides clean power, well regulated and handles any load I can throw at at. I believe it deserves 5 stars because the company is top notch in terms of supporting their products and the inverter just works and doesn't call attention to itself. ... show more

18kw model powers my entire house with ease. My only suggestion would be a higher input voltage on the built in solar charger. Very happy with my purchase. EDIT: Unfortunately the inverter fried at 2.5k and was never overloaded. $550 in parts to fix or ship it back to them.
