I have been leveling out a section of the backyard to build a raised bed garden and needed a good wide bow rake that could handle both breaking up compacted clay soil and leveling out loose dirt and gravel. This 17-tine wide head rake does both jobs well. The head width is noticeably larger than a standard garden rake, which makes leveling go significantly faster. You cover more ground per pass and the 17 tines are spaced to work through soil without clogging on moderate debris. The orange color makes it easy to spot where you left it in the yard, which sounds minor but becomes practical when you are working on a large project. The adjustable wooden handle is the standout feature. Being able to extend to 55 inches means you can work at a comfortable height regardless of how tall you are. I am 6 feet and have had many fixed-length rakes that required me to hunch over. At full extension I am standing nearly upright which makes a real difference over an hour of raking. The adjustment mechanism is a twist collar that locks firmly without creeping back. The metal head is solid. Tines are thick enough to resist bending under load and the connection to the handle collar looks properly reinforced. I have applied real force breaking up compacted spots and nothing has flexed in a worrying way. Used it for soil leveling, mixing in compost, and clearing rough gravel. 17 Tines Wide Head Bow Rake for Soil Leveling, Garden Rake Heavy Duty with 55” Adjustable Wooden Handle, sold by GlimHirVox. This 17 Tines Wide Head Bow Rake is for working the dirt that a normal garden rake can't quite handle. I found the assembly instructions sufficient and it was easy to get it all together. I had two patches of freshly moved dirt and rock mix that I needed leveled out. This rake did well with only one exception. The issue I had was as I worked the soil, I had to constantly tighten the top wooden Handle piece. The Metal couplet just keeps riding up the wooden handle and has begun to make a ridge at that point. I'm guessing that this metal piece was made just a little too large in diameter or the wood was milled to small. This was causing abrasion on my hand during use. The two lower pieces of wood and steal didn't have an issue. I got the job done, and will try to first unscrew the top handle piece. Wrap it with something like duct tape and screw it back together again. I think that this will increase the diameter of the wood just enough so that it doesn't easily slide into the metal coupling If the problem continues, I'll just deal with it until I've screwed it down so far that it becomes unusable. I took of a star for this reason. Cost wise, it is a fair price considering what you'd pay at a Big Box Hardware store for a comparable product.
