    • Great Budget Option for Occasional Use — A Few Things to Know First

Overall, this winch does exactly what it’s supposed to do and represents solid value for the money. If you’re looking for something to get you out of a jam on rare occasions, this is a great buy. That said, there are a few things I wish I’d known before purchasing that might matter more if you plan to use it with any frequency. First, the 13,000 lb winch is noticeably slow — and I mean noticeably. Even without a load on the line, it moves significantly slower than my 9,000 lb winch on another vehicle. It gets the job done, but don’t expect speed. Second, there’s no end-of-line indicator. Many winches use a color change in the rope (like switching from black to red) to warn you as you approach the end of the line. This one doesn’t have that feature, which is something worth knowing. Third, the control box mount leaves a bit to be desired. It’s functional but feels like an afterthought in the design — there’s definitely room for improvement there. Bottom line: great product for the price if you need a dependable backup for rare use. If you’re planning more frequent or demanding use, you might want to step up to a higher quality tier. ... show more
