This is a budget planer and is comparable to cheaper models you can pick up at your local hardware stores. At the time of this review, the retail price was $350 which is about 15% higher than many planers you can find on Amazon with the same features. While the planer has a decent feed rate, however, with only two blades, you can only remove a little stock at a time depending on the hardness of your material which means several passes will be required for good results. If you try to remove too much at once, the planer will bog down, and you will not get a smooth finish. The maximum thickness of 6 1/2" offers a good range of depth adjustment. Dust collection is OK, but your results will probably depend on the type of vacuum you use. I have a dust collector with 4" hoses which has a lot of suction, a shop vac may provide less performance. It is nice however that the connector supports both sizes. All in all, the planer seems quality made, much like many of the Woodstarter products, just in this case, I think it's priced a bit higher than it needs to be to make it a competitive alternative to other models.

Setup was straight: bolt it down, check tables, run a scrap to dial depth. It takes 13-inch wide stock, feeds steady, and with light passes the finish is clean. If you hog too much, you get snipe, so use infeed/outfeed support and take shallow cuts. Dust port actually works if you hook a vac; without it, chips will snow the shop. Overload trips when you’re greedy, then cool and reset—saves the motor. Blades are HSS, so keep spare set ready. For the money, it flattens rough lumber into real projects and pays for itself quick.
