I use these in my seed starting mixture. Sometimes I search seeds just in this alone or for instance, I will use this for some starter potatoes, which I just lay in there and damp in the coconut and they sprout like crazy in a few days. This stuff is so useful, I like adding it to my seed starting mixture because while it holds a little moisture for the plants, it doesn't let it get soggy. It seems to keep the soil fluffy. There are no nutrients, of course but you don't need it for that purpose. This brand is a bit more coarse than some other brands but the price is right so I'm working around it.

This stuff is amazing, I just bought more because it is so easy to work with and looks so nice. I topped off my herb garden, then raked around my apple trees and spread a nice layer. It does not blow around like peat and does not clump like wood chips or wood mulch. The color stays a pleasing neutral color, even when dry. I cannot wait to get my tomatoes planted and mix some of this in and around them. Overall great product, just put a block in a wheelbarrow and use a hose to expand.

We have 4 4x8 raised beds and I needed some type of mulch to loosen up the soil for this planting season. I had never tried this product before but it looked like it was just what I needed to make my soil more airy and water absorption. It did exactly what I needed it to and I'm very happy with it. I have never used this in 40 years of flower/herb gardening. I think this product is great. I have used it alone and mixed it with potting soil. It absorbs water so much better than most potting mixtures alone. I started basil from seed in just this mixture and I was amazing at how quickly every seed planted came up. I will never garden again without it. Plus it’s so much easier to store any extra bricks verses big bags of potting soil.

I don't think this soil is worth the price for what you get Nice that it's organic, but it very dry doesn't seem to hold moisture well and doesn't absorb water quickly. There are little bits of decomposing wood throughout the mix along with a good amount of sand. I wish the wood bits were smaller and more broken down. I'm mixing this with m native soil and old potting soil to make it to my liking. I wouldn't buy this brand again.
