I use these heaters to heat a section of my yard pond in the winter for my fish. I've been though a bunch as they short out quickly. But this heater has been amazing!!

Bought this to keep my 5 gallon bucket that I use to water my chickens from freezing. It works to well and gets the water way too hot. The chickens won't drink the water so I still have to go out and unplug to let the water cool and then plug it back in before the water freezes. Without a temperature control this would probably be better used in larger amounts of water, like a stock tank or something. Looking at going another route and will buy a heating plate for bucket to sit on (with a temperature control). ... show more

    • Heats very quickly
Be careful taking out of water . Carefully remove from water without touching heated pole at all times.

This thing heats water to practically boiling, so I don’t see how that is useful for livestock.

    • Temp lower than spec. Replacement fine
I tested the temperature control in a few gallons of water and found that it cycled between 165f and 167f. It's pretty far off from the 185f spec. Update: Decided to replace unit. Replacement is cycling right at 185F

This heater works fantastic for what I am using it for. The bucket is probably three gallons and temperature was at 92 degrees and I bought water up to 104 degrees. It did it in around 5 minutes but maybe faster didn't time it.

    • Works well for heating a bucket of water.
It is simple and works really well for its intended purpose. There is no temperature controller but it stops after heating the water to a certain temperature.
