  • Insanely loud fan noise and a questionable power supply. Also, it died.
-- EDIT, ~6 weeks after purchase -- Dropped the review to one star. On top of all the issues mentioned below, last night I was swapping out HDMI input sources, and as soon as I unplugged the existing HDMI cord there was an overwhelming smell of burning electronics pouring out of the system, accompanied by light smoke. I immediately powered the system down and unplugged it. I took it to a clearer area, plugged it back in, and now get nothing but "Protect" on the display, assumingly indicating it's in some sort of power protection mode from a blown transformer, judging by the continued smell. AVOID PURCHASING this item for any reason! -- END EDIT -- Easy enough to unpack and set up, and has a great selection of inputs, but the second I turned it on, it started causing both UPS systems on that breaker to pop on and off. Turning it off and immediately back on fixes the problem, but this needs to be done any time it's been powered down for more than five minutes. An annoyance, but since this is intended to be left on for 24/7 background noise in my house with occasional use as part of my home theater experience, I found this acceptable. What was absolutely unacceptable was the fact that the noise from the built-in cooling fan was so loud that you could hear it from the next room, and it was actually overpowering a good portion of the audio. ... show more

  • Great for karaoke

  • It’s a love hate relationship
Well, the only great thing about this is you can connect several passive and powered subwoofers at the same time. Power, maybe 100 watts max. Barely will drive a subwoofer on its own and is not clear. If you connect a powered subwoofers, it has an excellent sound. Many types of different connections, Aplus on that. Bad things…..if you change 1 setting all your speakers change levels….it pretty much puts the volumes where ever it likes…If you change 1 you always have to change the rears, center, and sub where you had it. No way to save the way you like it. The echo is ridiculous, cannot take it down to zero. It seams to adjust reverb and echo on its own. And This thing is noisy. Relays clunking, fan running,..Just flat out loud. Cannot leave it on due to heat and noise. and the connector lugs for speakers on the back, a pain in the rear. For the money, can’t beat it really. Serves my purpose overall, has some downsides. Don’t love or hate it. Right down the middle. ... show more

  • Garbage!
The media could not be loaded. Purchased this unit to replace an old receiver. Upon opening the first one (yes, the fist one) you could hear something sliding around inside the unit. Didn't seem normal but went ahead and hooked it up anyway. As soon as the unit is turned on there was a buzzing sound. A low level buzzing sound, but a definite buzz. Then plugged in the comcast cable and the buzz amplified and now could even be heard from the subwoofer (no sound issue without this receiver). Then, to make it even worse, loud static and weird sounds began to come from the right front speaker. The next time I turned it on these noises were coming from the left front speaker (see attached video to hear for yourself). So, I returned this unit for a replacement figuring it must be a random case. The second unit acted the exact same way. I tried different wires, different speakers, different HDMI but nothing made a difference. Really tried to make it work because it was exactly what I was looking for, but short of opening the unit up to check inside, there was nothing else I could do. So, sent the second one back and still on the hunt for a new unit. I DO NOT recommend this product. It will most likely just waste a few hours of your time and you will end up back where you started - looking for a new receiver. ... show more
