I bought this product because I had tried several different “blackout” curtains in my daughter’s nursery that still didn’t leave the room actually dark enough for her to take good naps. Even the “100% blackout” curtains let in a ton of light. Before I had kids I worked night shift as a nurse and I remember literally taping black poster board over my windows to make the room get dark enough for me to sleep well, and it worked really good but I didn’t want to do that in her nursery because I like being able to have the daylight in between her naps while she plays on her mat and does tummy time. So, this was my solution—it basically functions the same as the posterboard, except you can put it up and take it down at your leisure and it’s super easy. The kit comes with adhesive magnets that stick very well to the window frame as well as magnets for the “curtain” itself that also have a good, strong adhesive. The material is thin but that doesn’t affect its ability to darken the room. One side of the material is black and the other side almost looks like aluminum foil which also helps keep heat out (think of it like those panels you see people put in their cars during the summer to deflect heat) which was another issue we were having in her nursery as it was getting too hot during the day from sunlight exposure. My only real “con” is that the initial setup is definitely a two person job especially if your windows are large and you are short like I am. Once you get the magnet placement the way you want it, though, it’s very easy to take them down and put them back up on your own. The images in my review show the window before the panel was put up, with just the panel, and then with the panel and blackout curtains combined (best result).

I purchased this blackout vinyl for my bedroom windows, and I couldn’t be more pleased with the results. Installation was quick and straightforward — just cut to size, peel, and stick. The adhesive is strong but removable, so there’s no damage to the window if you need to reposition or remove it. The blackout effect is fantastic. The shade itself works great. There is no light coming through the window & it helps keep the room cooler, that deserves 10 stars. The only reason I give it 3 stars is because it doesn’t stay up. The sticky part on the discs doesn’t last very long on a window that gets very hot. I’ve tried using multiple discs & magnets and have tried sticking them on various parts of the window & window frame but the shade continues to fall.

The magnets and the hook and loop strips were fine. The cloth was awful. As soon as I opened the bag with the cloth, I was hit with a very strong, fishy smell. A smell that reminded me of sardines. I tried to see if it airing it out would help, but it just made the smell stand out even more. The smell just made it unusable for me. In fact, the smell was so bad that I just threw it out instead of returning it. I just couldn't stand it. It's possible that I got unlucky and that most of the other items in this product line smell fine. I don't know, but this experience has forever ruined this company for me. Never gonna purchase from this company ever again.
