  • Really impressive at twice the price
Style: Pedal
This pedal sounds great and is really easy to use. The effects sound top quality - delays and verbs are beautiful and I like that a couple of distortions/dirt FX are included even though it's an acoustic pedal. Helps for making leads pop out a bit when looping with a separate looper pedal. The acoustic models are subtle and may not represent a sound improvement for your guitar (this is true of other acoustic modeling pedals as well due to the number of factors involved, like model, pickup, amp or PA, etc.), so if this is your primary interest I would urge you to test and compare with other modeling pedals. Being able to place this pedal's integrated looper at the beginning of the chain to audition effects is so practical and useful btw, and the included tuner is highly visible and accurate. Included software is intuitive and adds a ton of value. The casing is plastic and I wish it was metal but it's very heavy duty and looks like it will last. Just wish it had a tad more weight to it. Other than that, I can't think of any negatives. Highly recommended if you're primarily interested in great quality effects for your acoustic rig. A no brainer at this price. ... show more

  • Using it for acoustic violin; very useful; steep learning curve if you are new to pedals
Style: Pedal
Once you figure out how to use it, which is not an easy task if you are an acoustic violin player unfamiliar with the world of pedals, you can customize a set of effects to use as your go-to sound when plugged in at home with friends or when gigging. I like the comfort of knowing regardless of the PA where I might be playing, I can add some EQ and compression going in, and automatically improve my sound. I also figured out how to use it to boost volume (don’t assume you will use the volume pedal for that! you won’t have the control you need; instead I added a gain effect I can turn on or off). I am not using it for super-amped-up-electric sounding effects, which means i’m ignoring most of the built-in violin stuff. But I did take one of the built-in patches and modify it for my own needs (removed delay and most of the reverb so it sounded more natural). And, the same effects work pretty well on my vocals, so sometimes I run my vocal mic thru the same patch and/or if I’m playing into a mic instead of a line-in from my pick-up, then it’s OK that the effects are being applied to both my playing and singing. ... show more

  • Lots of features, small price tag
Style: Pedal
I dabble in a lot of instruments, so for me to spend $100’s or more on a guitar effects pedal system just really isn’t something I can justify. For $150, this thing is awesome! Truthfully, I could see spending double or triple that. You can edit all patches, loop recordings, and play to a rhythm section. I have only started exploring this thing tonight but it has opened a whole new world for me and my acoustic guitar. Makes practicing a lot of fun too! ... show more

  • Incredibly fussy about power; poor UI
Style: Pedal
I'll start with the positives: the A1X FOUR does what it says it does, it works, and I would always rather have it than not have it with my electric violin. I haven't used other multi-effects processors, so I am reviewing it on its own and not in comparison to its direct competition. My biggest gripe with this device is power management. It can take power either from AA batteries or the micro-USB port. On battery, it turns on when an instrument is connected and turns off when an instrument is disconnected. This behavior isn't clearly documented in the user materials, so you're left to kind of figure it out. That also means that if you put your instrument down and walk away, there's no way to stop the A1XFOUR from continuing to drain its batteries, short of also unplugging the instrument cable. On USB power, on the other hand, it will eventually go to sleep, but I have not been able to find a way to wake it up other than unplugging the power and plugging it back in. And that only sometimes works, leaving the user to repeat the maneuver 2 or 3 times until it finally comes on. In operation, the basic UI is fine -- forward and back pedals to switch effect chains, and a third pedal to adjust volume, wah, or whatever is configured. You get 5 "speed dial" buttons for your favorite effect chains, and the chromatic tuner works just fine. My major UI complaint is when it comes to programming effect chains. The interaction between the buttons, knobs, pedals, and lights is positively inscrutable. You either need to program on Guitar Lab (Windows Only, hasn't had an update since 2022) or have the user manual close at hand. ... show more

  • Great all in one unit
Style: Pedal
I use this for my acoustic and electric violin. The sound quality for the price can not be beaten. The factory presets are great but a little overdone as far as reverb. After carful tweaking I was able to achieve the sound I was looking for. It has multiple eqs which is great for electric violin. The battery has a long life. The product is quite intuitive. The computer program that helps you tweak and delete/add patches worked well but after the update the computer is having trouble recognizing the unit. I’m sure it is an issue that will be resolved or could possibly be operator error. I would definitely buy again. ... show more

  • Easy to operate, save patches w 3 knobs quickly
Style: Pedal
Very well made but the pedal is too close to the Up foot switch. I like the design and setup is made very easy to change a patch and now I see Boss GT-1 has followed same set aspect with knobs 1-3 can modify and save patches, sound effects quickly, nice acoustic sounds found on this Zoom A1x - plus Rhythm box and a looper all in one unit, love it ... show more

  • Good enough for the price.
Style: Pedal
It will do what it says it will do, has lots of effects lots of choices. It’s hard to use live, but it would work good in the studio
