I WAS RELUCTANT AT FIRST! I am going to write an unusual review. When we first took the mattress out of the bed and I lay down on it, my first thought was, "Oh NO! What have I done? This mattress is like laying on a padded brick." It took less then 24 hours for the memory foam to completely fluff up. So I gave it another day. And another. It was just SO FIRM! My old bed was like a soft billowy cloud that just wrapped around you. So I called Amazon to check on their return policy. They told me to wait a week and see how I felt, and then we could initiate the return process. I AM SO GLAD I WAITED! I now LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this bed!! Here's why: I SLEEP LIKE A BABY THAT SLEEPS THROUGH THE NIGHT! I have never slept so good in my whole life! I didn't realize it until about 2 weeks went by. I realized, I'm not getting up at night to briefly check the alarm clock time, go to the bathroom etc. No. It is literally a SLEEP MAGNET! I lie down on it, and 5 minutes later, I'm out cold! No more tossing and turning to fall asleep. NO MORE INSOMNIA! I find I am sleeping about exactly 7 hours straight without waking up once. I don't even notice if my husband is beside me in the bed or not. If he moves, I am not aware at all. Even though I was sleeping great,for two weeks I just couldn't seem to part with our old mattress. I kept having doubts like, "but what if it is just a bit TOO firm? Will I regret tossing our old mattress?" (It was still in our hall. I know I sound like Goldilocks here, but to be absolutely certain we could trash our old mattress once and for all, I took this mattress off, put it in the hall where our old one was, and put the old one back on. The next two nights were the worse sleep nights of my life. Though my old bed is like falling into a fluffy hammock, I realize now that I have not slept hardly at all for years! No telling how many times I wake up at night! So I switched back again to the Zinus mattress. And I also went ahead and shelled out a little bit more money and added an extra layer of padding with a Sleep Innovations 4-Inch Dual Layer Mattress Topper - Gel Memory Foam and Plush Fiber also found on Amazon ($184.10). That made the bed absolutely PERFECT. Very firm support, but a soft topper. If you have bad back issues, or trouble sleeping this bed is for you! It may be a bit of an adjustment at first, but wait a few days, or add just one more layer of foam as we did. In fact at first, my back was just slightly sore, but that's because it was used to being curved like the letter "C" at night. Now every part of my spine is firmly supported, and zero pain anywhere. I am 51 yo, and wake up feeling refreshed. My bed is also on platform risers, and because the bed is perfectly FLAT, it doubles as a workspace (wrapped all our Christmas presents on it). It's easy to fold laundry, etc. because it is firm and perfect height. We both love this bed so much, I hope by next Christmas to replace our Queen size bed in the other bedroom. My 11 yo son loves it too, and now he wishes he could have one too. Conclusion: It may seem to firm at first, but give it a few days. Your body may be readjusting. Now I realize it's the best bed we ever bought! The price is totally reasonable and so convenient having it delivered to your door! PS -- This mattress also has individually wrapped coils, so you don't have to worry about springs going bad and that adds to it's firmness. I think next time, we may try the green tea 10" memory foam only (no springs) as it reviews as being firm, but probably slightly less than this one. Still, I am a converted believer now in this firm bed. Last thoughts: HOTEL OWNERS/MANAGERS should order these beds! With concern over bedbugs etc., stains etc., these beds are so reasonably priced, you could afford to replace mattresses several times a year if necessary. Awesome mattress but definitely pay attention to the heights of the mattress and READ everything including a bunch of reviews before purchasing! I had a spring mattress and was in search of a new mattress at an affordable price. I went into a bunch of mattress stores to test out different mattresses. I hate all memory foam mattresses but was surprised that the cool gel hybrid mattresses which included layers of foam and spring coils I knew that was what I wanted. I fell in love with the Leesa Mattress but could not afford the $1000 price tag. I did a ton of research on an affordable mattress like the Leesa and kept stumbling across this mattress over and over again. I was nervous about ordering a mattress online without trying it but skimmed a few reviews and decided to go for it anyway because of the amazing price. When i saw the comparison to the leesa it was actually for the 12 inch zinus mattress. I searched for the zinus mattress in the Amazon app on my phone and found it but it came up as 10 inch. I didn't realize that the height of the mattress determines the firmness. The 10 inch is the hardest mattress, the 12 inch is a medium firmness and the 14 inch is the softest. My husband measured our box spring mattress at 10 inch and thought the 12 or 14 would be too tall with our platform bed so ordered the 10 inch. The 10 inch for this mattress is about the same firmness as the 8 inch Casper mattress we tested out at a sleep number store. (If you want to test out a mattress in a sleep number store to get an idea of which level if firmness you like best! I think the 10 inch Casper is probably around the same firmness as the 12 inch Zinus). I definitely don't like a mattress that's too hard but can't sleep on one that's too soft either. The 10 inch was too firm for us with our Ikea brimnes storage bed using bed slats. We put the 10 inch in a guest room on the zinus platform bed frame which is a little more comfortable and now have the 12 inch our bed which is just the right level of firmness and is extremely comfortable with our Ikea bed! So if you have a platform bed and are using bed slats definitely go with the 12 inch! The biggest downside of the cheaper price is delivery. Ordering from a mattress store and having a bed delivered the mattress is usually brought in the house for you by the delivery people. The box from Amazon was left in the middle of our driveway when we were at work. The mattress is rolled up inside a very long and heavy box. My husband had to call a friend over to help him be able to pick up the box and get it into the house. Once we had it inside and opened it was completely ready to go in less than 2 hours so we were able to sleep on it that night! When we ordered the second 12 inch I had it delivered on a weekend when I knew my husband would be home. My husband and the delivery guy carried the box into the house together. I think its definitely worth the cheaper price because it seems like a really amazing good quality mattress! Just make sure you figure out delivery and getting the box inside the house ahead of time. My husband and I couldn't carry the box inside by ourselves. Its definitely VERY heavy. I couldn't imagine having to carry it up stairs in an apartment building or being able to get it inside if I lived alone! Overall still would absolutely order the 12 inch again. Our friend who has a Leesa mattress told me "This is just as comfortable as ours. We should have saved the $700 and gotten this one instead!" Thanks for a great product Zinus! (Ps I had a question so went on the Zinus website directly and called Zinus customer service directly and they were amazing! So even though you are ordering from Amazon the company is easy to reach and extremely helpful if you need to contact them with any questions or problems!)
