I would say I am more than a novice painter, but would not say I am an expert. I am not impressed with the 11x14 size canvas board. I have purchased others and loved them, however, I found myself a bit tight on money and went for a lower-priced option. I regret it. I found that my acrylics dried too fast on these boards and found it difficult to blend. Even though the description stated they were primed with gesso, I believe they skimped on it. In order for me to use the remainder of this order, I need to purchase some gesso and prime them before I do my typical wash. These would be great for beginners or if you are taking classes, but not for anything you plan to sell or frame.

These are some very lightweight panels with a thinner cardboard backing and a single layer of canvas. It’s not too shabby, but I feel like it will get hobbyists and younger students into the world of painting without paying too much money. The back of each panel has a paper surface that can be easily marked with pencil, pen or marker, so this makes it easy to label what is what. And because they are all perfectly uniform, they’re really easy to stack and store. You can smell the layer of gesso on each panel, but if you want a smoother surface, you can re-apply your own acrylic gesso and sand it down with sandpaper. I’d start at 400-grade sandpaper and work my way up to 800. I’m planning to use these to practice oil painting and I feel like I can get some mileage out of these. The only caveat here is the thinness of the cardboard backing. I noticed that it took impressions and dents easily. I would put these on a shelf when not in use and avoid putting other supplies on top of them to avoid this.

Got these for practicing painting techniques. They are average quality for this style of canvas. These are a good value for beginners, youth, or just painting practice. They are pretty sturdy and easy to use. They always benefit from a coat of gesso though.
