We used this to separate part of our hamster cage to add a new area to explore. The sticks are very loosely connected so you can make it into different shapes if needed. This falls over fairly easy outside of the cage so you'll want to partially bury it in the bedding to make sure it stays upright. Our hamster is spoiled, and we bought these to section off her habitat into areas. She can easily crawl over them and they look fantastic. The downside is that she chews through them which leaves (sometimes sharp) metal pieces sticking out, so I have to use wire cutters to trim the metal or bend it back into a safe position. I got this barrier for my two hamsters, at first it worked like a charm as I wanted to use it to separate different areas. I had an adorable dwarf hamster named "Sage" and I had place one of these barriers in his home. I woke up one morning and glanced over to see him lying on his side, so I thought he was asleep. But I got closer, and his leg was jammed in between the barriers, I have no idea how long he was there for, and I still feel horrible. I believe he tried to climb over the barrier and his leg was stuck there. His leg that was stuck was completely purple and wasn't moving, I immediately took him to the vet. The vet told me that the leg that was purple was fractured, his other leg was cut up and sore, and he had cuts on his stomach. I had to put my baby down because of how much pain he was in. I got home and immediately threw of those barriers away. Never again ... show more

I do NOT recommend these! There are gaps between the wood pieces and our poor hamster got his leg stuck in between them. Poor thing was stuck hanging upside down by one leg for I don’t even know how long all day! Luckily we were able to pull the pieces apart more to easily free him, definitely would not buy these again though. ... show more
