It is difficult to buy orchard grass hay in any quantity in a store. We give this hay to our chinchillas as free choice feed. They love it, which is good. Good for digestion and for wearing down their mousy fangs properly.

I've been a Timothy "bundad" since the beginning, but thought I would mix it up a bit with some different Oxbow offerings just to gage Lolly's reactions. Far and away, the Oxbow Orchard Grass has been her absolute favorite! When I mix two or three distinctly different grades, she will actually root around to find the Orchard first! I want to start off by saying that I get a box delivered monthly for my very happy guinea pigs. It's great hay, regardless of the low price. Once and a while, I get a random twig or piece of random plant in the box. No biggie. It's to be expected and Oxbow knows it can happen. Recently however, I found a petrified rodent in the hay. Again, I understand how this can happen. I am worried about the health of my guinea pigs, considering they consumed a quarter of this box. Touching a petrified rodent wasnt fun either. The media could not be loaded. I have 6 mice, three of which are fancy mice, two are "house mice" and one is a deer mouse. My fancy mice seem to really enjoy it, two of them actively eat this and they get really excited when I give them fresh hay. My boy Pudding does what I call "the hay twitches", as well as popcorning around and it's so cute! I didn't expect my youngest two to enjoy it as much as they do but they eat it every time I give it to them. My other mice for the most part seem to ignore the hay or line their nests with it, or use it to make their tunnels sturdier. I'm happy as long as they use it in some way, whether they eat it or not. I love how this smells, it's so sweet and fresh that it makes ME want to eat it. I bought one of the packs of "extra large ziploc' bag packs, kind of like the ones for towels and laundry, and just shoved the whole bag of hay in there to keep it fresh. The zipper for this thing does suck to be honest, and if there's more than 3/4 left in the bag, picking it up by the built in handle hole will make the zipper open up 9/10 times. The amount I have will last me a long time with how small my mice are, but I will happily buy it again when I someday burn through it! ... show more
