Its well packaged and a softer type of hay. It was fresh and all was good but my chinchilla did not like it. I have given him Timothy hay all his live so maybe that is why. It appeares fresh and softer than timothy hay for sure as well as thinner strands.

Green, fresh, tightly packed hay. My young lionhead bunnies love it, which kind of surprised me, as I'm cutting down on alfalfa and increasing the orchard grass, and they don't seem to mind at all. They like to lie down on it, too, and it's not too strong of a scent, and less allergy triggering than Timothy. Highly recommend! Great price compared to other boxes, too, which we appreciate, as these bunnies eat a remarkable amount of food! ... show more

This is my guinea pigs favorite hay. It’s expensive but so worth it. 90% of it is always super green and fresh which other brands are not even close. Also it doesn’t have that bad hay smell and doesn’t mess with my allergies.

I hate to write this because I love Oxbow products, but the 25 pound hay boxes are a huge disappointment and waste of money. I started with Timothy hay in the 25 pound size and was extremely disappointed with the quality. A lot of very long, yellow, hard stems in there as well as an unbelievable amount of dust and pieces too small to use. My guinea pigs weren't eating as much of it and there was so much that was wasted. So I decided to try the Orchard with hopes it would be better. No luck. Very dry with a lot of yellow and brown pieces. I though the dust and tiny pieces may be better since Orchard is usually less dusty to begin with, but no, just as bad. My husband has developed extreme allergies to the hay in the larger sized boxes because of all the dust and small bits. My guinea pigs are sneezing more when they're in their hay piles and again, not eating as much of it. I had hoped to save some money with the larger size boxes since I have a herd of 8 guinea pigs, but I guess I'll have to go back to the 9 pound boxes. When it comes to quantity, Oxbow is my go to for Orchard Grass (since 2018). I've compared prices with other brands, and it's the best bang for your buck if you want to buy bulk but stay within your budget. However, I've noticed the recent batches I've received haven't been up to par with my standards, or my pets' standards. My guinea pigs seem to tolerate our current bale, but my buns aren't big fans. A lot of the bale is very dry and yellow/brown, as opposed to the greener and tender quality I'm used to getting from Oxbow. There were even a few tree sticks inside that gave me splinters, and in the order I got before this, I found little black specks. I'm not sure if it was mold, or something else, but it was worrisome and I reported it. Still, I'm going to give this hay another chance and hope I've just had some bad luck because Oxbow competitors are priced outrageously high just for 25 lbs of hay. Overall, I recommend giving this product a try if nothing else. Orchard grass in general is a fan favorite for my pets, even my very picky senior bun ... show more
