Somehow the axel got bent in the front wheel of my Trek hybrid. I was able to unscrew the front axel and replaced with the new axel and skewer. Took 10 minutes and all good to ride!!

The solid front axle was replaced easily with quick release using the original bearing races and nuts and dropped right into the front fork. The rear axle with the freewheel was an exercise in spacing, using some spacers and nuts that I already had. Even after swapping out different spacers and differently sized nut thicknesses, I eventually had to grind down a bit of the axle to make it shorter so it would fit the distance between the rear forks of my old steel framed Trek mountain bike. The original wheel had a much longer solid axle that had nuts on the end - stronger but a pain to work on without a socket wrench. The kit comes with 2 differently sized pairs of races for the bearings. I just used the original races as I knew they fit, and used the time to repack the bearings with new grease. At least the rear axle wasn't too short, as then I wouldn't have been able to use it. Once installed, it's nice to be able to quickly remove the wheel for tube or tire changes. The webpage says you don't need tools, but I used a thin 15mm wheel wrench and a regular 17mm open wrench to loosen and tighten the lock/spacing nuts. I don't see how you can do the job without these. 4 stars - Works, but in my case required a bit of bicycle mechanic knowledge. This Trek had a 7 gear freewheel cassette and the axle might be designed for rear stays that fit an 8 or 9 gear freewheel. ... show more

The bike axle set quality is poor, it rust by just being exposed to air. It's cheap so I understand but it won't serve time. Easy to install but doesn't work as shouldn't. The skewers are way skinner that the axle they don't fit together
