  • Good Carafe for Brewing Coffee and Tea
Color: 51 oz
I enjoy iced tea, but making iced tea can present a challenge. I don’t like dropping tea bags in a pitcher full of water and having to fish them out later. Trying to hang the bags over the pitcher’s side rarely works either. The YMMIND cold brew coffee maker has provided me with an elegant-looking solution to my problem. I haven’t used it to make coffee (I prefer my cup of joe hot), but it makes a perfect pitcher of tea. The YMMIND tea maker comes in two sizes, 34 and 51 ounces. We ordered the 51-ounce size. The borosilicate glass carafe resembles a large chemistry lab flask. It is 7 ½ inches high and about 4 ½ inches wide at the base. It then quickly flares to 5 ¾ inches and gradually tapers down to 2 ¾ inches at the neck. There is a small v-notch at the neck to allow you to pour beverages from the carafe. The carafe also has a 4 ¾ glass handle that most adults can fit their fingers inside to hold it. A measuring scale painted in white letters appears on one side of the carafe, measuring up to 48 ounces. It also has a max fill line about one inch above the 48-ounce indicator. Those measurements are a bit high, however. The 48-ounce line holds a little over 48 ounces of liquid. When filled to the max line, the carafe holds about 56 ounces (seven cups). The tea maker comes with a matte finish stainless steel cap. This cap has two detachable parts. The top part is a standard cap with a silicone sealing ring. Underneath the cap’s upper part is a cylinder that is 6 ¾ inches long and two inches in diameter. This cylinder has its own sealing ring, so that when you press the cylinder and cap together, they stay attached. The cylinder also has hundreds of tiny holes along its circumference. The holes allow water inside but are too small for coffee grounds, tea leaves, or other brewing materials to escape. Because of the carafe’s v-notch neck, the sealing rings don’t entirely cover the notch’s bottom. As a result, the carafe is not air- or watertight. You can make cold-brew coffee, hot or cold-brew tea, and fruit-infused beverages in the YMMIND tea maker. I’ve only used it for iced tea. Since I like my tea somewhat strong, I place two family-sized tea bags in the cylinder, fill the carafe to the 48-ounce line with boiling water, and slowly lower the cap into the carafe. If you put the cap on too quickly and try to seal it in place, the water that’s displaced by the cylinder is likely to spill out. The cap and cylinder float on the water like a fishing bob. I later add as much more water as I can without spilling. Finally, after I’ve brewed the tea, I remove the cap slowly to let the water inside drain out and fill the carafe to the fill line with more hot water. I then reseal the carafe using only the cap’s top part. Once the carafe cools, the result is about seven cups of strong iced tea, just the way I like it. The YMMIND tea maker comes with a couple of helpful accessories. You can’t reach the carafe’s bottom to clean it, so the manufacturer included a two-piece cleaning brush. The box also contains a rubber pad with a lace pattern. You can rest the carafe on the pad to avoid damage to a table or counter. I have washed the carafe, cap, cylinder, and rubber pad in the dishwasher with no problem. The carafe’s glass is about as thin as a typical flask, but I have no problem lifting a full carafe by the handle to pour. However, I think the carafe could break if it fell on a hard kitchen floor from a table or counter. The YMMIND tea maker does not come with an instruction booklet, so users have to figure out for themselves how to brew their favorite beverage. Unless they’re very smart or lucky, that will usually involve spilling some contents the first couple of times they try it. However, once they master brewing their favorite beverage without spills, they will have an attractive carafe they can put on the dining room table. It looks much better than a plastic pitcher or similar container. I still keep a sponge handy in case I have to mop up a small spill, but I also refill the YMMIND carafe often and enjoy the contents. • Perfect infuser pitcher for summer drinks
Color: 51 oz
I bought this to use in the summer to infuse fruit with water and other drinks, or to make iced tea, and it has worked great so far. It is a good size, and all the pieces are well made. The infuser works well and is also easy to clean. The glass is sturdy but also lightweight

  • Very good cold brew maker
Color: 51 oz
I really like this cold brew pitcher. For a start, I like the way it looks; it kind of resembles a lab flask, which is pretty cool if that's your thing. It's very easy to use, once you get the hang of how much water it can take without overflowing if you're going to put the water in first and then add the filter filled with coffee grounds. That's the way I'd recommend doing it; you can then add a little more water on top of the grounds once the water from the pitcher has soaked the grounds and the level has dropped a bit. You can also put the filter in first and then add water on top of the grounds, but that takes longer as you have to wait for the water to work its way through the grounds and into the pitcher repeatedly, and can only pour a small amount of water into the filter each time. The filter and lid fit well into the top of the pitcher, and both have silicone seals that prevent spills when the lid is on, even when the pitcher is filled almost all the way to the top. The coffee I've made using this pitcher has turned out perfectly each time; the filter is impressively fine, and no grounds have escaped into my coffee. You do need to remove the filter in order to pour your coffee, but that's not an issue for me as I'm going to throw out the grounds once the coffee's ready to drink vs. continue steeping them. I actually decant the coffee into a different pitcher once it's ready so that I can begin brewing a new batch in this one right away, although you could obviously set the filter aside and keep the brewed coffee in this pitcher as well. It's easy to clean; there's no information that specifically says not to put it in the dishwasher, but it also doesn't mention being dishwasher-safe either, so I err on the side of caution by handwashing it. ... show more
