  • It's a pretty light. But it is decoration, not NOT a smart light in any useful sense.
Style: 3 Pack
OK, so here's the good stuff: - not that expensive - fits together well, feels solid, the light looks good BUT - there is no useful sense in which these can be considered smart lights. The iOS app allows you to choose a single color (for all the hexagons) or various dynamic effects. Some of the effects are, to be fair, very attractive. As a nice looking mood light, with some flexibility, and with the option for dynamic colors, one can't complain. There is also the usual supposed party mode where it does *something* supposedly in response to music. This was ugly as sin and no way would I ever activate it again! The big issue is that there is NO way to program this thing with any sort of outside smarts. You can't get to it via HomeKit, via IFTTT, via HomeBridge, via some sort of direct REST API, NOTHING. You might hope it's Tuya compliant, but no. The app allows you to manually change the color or the dynamic pattern, but there appears to be no way to access that via Shortcuts or anything else. It's unclear if the branding on this product is simply incompetent and incoherent, or a deliberate attempt to mislead you: The product is apparently SOLD by Yescom, but is MADE by LifeSmart -- which is NOT the same thing as Smart Life (which is a large Chinese brand that IS Tuya compatible)... The best you can do in terms of smarts (and basically hooking it in to Alexa doesn't do more than this anyway) is connect it to a smart plug. Even so, when it power up it resets to the default pattern (which, fortunately, is beautiful) rather than to whatever it was previously set to. And I don't expect the app to ever be updated beyond this basic functionality. So, buy it as a nice decoration. But NOT as a programmable item. I hope to be able to use it as a status indicator, each hexagon a different color depending on some logic I programmed. But for that it's hopeless -- if you want that, accept you have to pay more and go with nanoleaf. Some other points worth noting: - the panels are small, each one is about the size of a fist, and they are fairly thick, again about the thickness of a fist. It's not a problem, just be aware that's what you are getting. The nanoleaf panels look about twice as large in diameter, so 4x the area. - each hexagon doesn't have to be a single color. They actually display varying colors across each panel -- of course you have no access to even the display of one panel, let alone each individual sub-panel LED. - READ the instructions for how to plug the pieces into each other. It seems so obvious that you just get to clipping things one into another, but in true badly designed form, there are multiple ways to plug connector A into slot B, all of which look legitimate, but only one of which works... - Those instructions are (of course!) in teeny tiny font... - The iOS app certainly ain't great, but I didn't see see anything to justify the crazy paranoia some have around the app. + It asks for your location, but only because that permission is required to scan for WiFi networks - you can give it a one-time permission for setup then never again. + It's actually smart enough to understand that even though your phone might be on a 5GHz network, you may want to connect it to a different network (all my IoT stuff is on a separately named 2.4GHz network), and does the right thing by scanning for every network and choosing the one you want the light to use. + It asks for Bluetooth permissions so that the phone can tell the light which WiFi network to use. Nothing nefarious or unexceptional in any of this. - So I don't expect the app to be leaking anything especially secret to China. (Though who knows? The lights have a mic in them so, I guess, either tape over that or hold your sooper-sekrit meetings about how you plan to bring down the party in some other room.) A more realistic concern is that I fully expect the app to stop working at some future iOS update, with zero interest by LifeSmart in ever fixing it. At which point you'd better REALLY like the default pattern because it's all you'll ever get to see. Connecting the first time failed and I had to try again; this seems par for the course for cheap IoT stuff. Yeah it's dumb and it sucks, but it's also what you get at every level until you are paying Hue and Eve prices. You do indeed get something for the extra cost of those brands in terms of better radio firmware, substantially superior apps, and infinitely superior programmability. ... show more

  • Great Cololights !
Style: 3 Pack
These lights are pretty good overall. The instructions were very easy to follow, and the instillation was easy. in the app once you connect the lights to the wifi you can choose colors, dynamics, brightness and many other things. You can either use the provided base or you can put them on the wall. And if you chose to buy more of these lights in the future you can easily attach the new lights with the connecters, so overall these are cool lights that are worth buying. ... show more

  • Fun To Watch Light Waves
Style: 3 Pack
These are fun to watch, especially when you’re busy cleaning so the music is playing. Then you catch a glimpse of a light wave rolling by. They are just fun no matter what age! Dinged them a star as they are rather prion here.

  • A Garbage App & Too Much Packaging! (updated)
Style: 11 Pack
I ordered the 10 piece kit and I was shocked to find that when I opened the box, inside were 10 more boxes... no scratch that there were 20 boxes. The kit is sold as a set, but really they're sending you individually sold light blocks. Each one comes in a brown cardboard box, and inside that is a sleek and colorful retail package. That means for every piece you get, you get two boxes. Why this isn't just sold as one large set is baffling to me. It's a lot of waste and a pain to clean up. There were also missing connector parts, I had some left over, but each box comes with two, a short one and a long one. The short ones are to add support I think and the longer ones are to send signal. If you don't use a longer connector you won't get them to light up. I couldn't get the app to connect to the device or my wifi. I'm using a preset now which I find relaxing and matches my office aesthetic. I question if the app really does anything or is finished. It's poorly translated from Chinese to English which carries over to the instructions as well. There's some confusing ideas in the set up guide. These are cheap, maybe one day they'll work as intended, but for now, I'm enjoying them. I ordered a second set for review and may alter this just in case it's my base unit or something that's out of wack. Will update if that's the case. BUT TOO MUCH PACKAGING! it's nonsense how many boxes they use. I ordered a second set thinking maybe it was my connector that was the issue. It's not. The real issue is that the device needs to connect to a 2.4ghz wifi signal. If you have a 5.0 or paired signal it won't know what to do and won't connect to the app. I manually set my router to have different names with the 2.4ghz and 5.0ghz and found that my router had a lot of problems and it also meant I'd have to be switching which wifi signal i was using just for the lights. The app itself is very poorly designed. You have to show the app how everything is connected manually. You design the pattern then you have to show which tabs you're using in which direction, which can be very hard to remember if you're like me and kind of designed the pattern as you attached them to the wall. From there the app lets you customize each tile and how the colors are on them. It's an incredibly tedious task, not fun at all, which is one of the factors for just going with the presets. I didn't get the music feature to work at all which was a bummer. the tech that runs the blocks seems to be mostly in the wired connector that attaches to and powers the blocks. Hopefully in the future they'll release a better connector/power source that has a microphone built in for music settings, more presets and connects to 5.0ghz wifi signals. ... show more

  • Stop raising the price 😒
Style: 3 Pack
The reason i bought these is because they are a perfect dupe of cololight and was cheaper but you keep raising the price and its very disappointing because i lost my lights and wanted to buy more and when i checked the price it was 6$ dollars more i might as well buy the expensive brand
