  • Can be made usable with some elbow grease
They had a nice idea with this drill press, but unfortunately it has 3 major problems out-of-the-box: 1. The column tube is too flimsy for the weight of a hand drill (mine is a 8.5 A DeWalt). Any pressure on the drill results in the out-of-plumb (forward-to-back) deflection of the drill bit of as much as 1/8”. 2. The same lock mechanism which allows for rotating the drill 90 degrees does not allow for setting it perfectly vertical – the drill remains out-of-plumb by a few degrees while the lock is at zero, and there is no more room to rotate the assembly. 3. The clamp is 20 mil too wide to hold the standard 43mm drill without having to use one of the enclosed plastic inserts. And then the thinnest provided plastic insert is still way too thick, making it a royal pain to mount the drill in the clamp. And even when mounted, the plastic insert is not really a good idea for a 1HP motor of the drill. I packed mine for a return and was ready to ship it back when I decided to look at the alternatives. Well, one can easily find that the only real alternative is a drill mount made by Unitec, and it is literally 6 times the price… I then unpacked this stand and ordered a sturdy thick-walled stainless steel tube for the column to hopefully take care of the deflection (that tube costs nearly as much as this stand), will then also grind out some material out of the 90 degree lock mechanism to allow for maybe a 1/32” of extra travel to be able to position the drill at truly 0 degrees vertically, and then will use some 10 mil copper or similar material instead of the plastic insert for the clamp. These measures combined will hopefully make this stand usable. ... show more

  • Mostly very nice!
This is a pretty good drill stand that I am using as a precision drill press. I bought an ER11 spindle motor from Aliexpress and installed in this stand. The stand, as is usual from many products from China, does not come ready to use. To make it nicer, you have to use abrasive, like sand paper, to make the ways smoother. I also flattened the brass shim. Then the spring broke so I bought a new one. I also changed the securing bolts to the blue handle adjustable ones to make it far easier to change height. I made the shim for the motor as well from aluminum stock. Otherwise, this is a pretty good drill stand. It's certainly better than others in this price range. I'm making this because I can't afford $1800 for a Servo Precision Drill Press. I drill a lot of small holes so I need something like this. It's far easier to use a little press like this for making small holes on small parts than trying to do it on a full size drill press. Maximum bit size is 1/4" with the ER11 collet system. I hope it works great for a long time. ... show more

  • Well made piece of equipment.
I am an amateur woodworker so my comments are not necessarily applicable to using this equipment for metal working. I bought this primarily to use my drill as a drum sander. Unfortunately the chuck of my excellent 1/2” Hitachi D13VF was just too big to fit into the stand, but, fortunately, another drill was available and fits perfectly. The base of this Drill Press is solid, heavy and nicely machined; the sliding drill holder is equally well machined and fitted and moves very nicely. I think it would have been better to have made the vertical post from seamless tubing rather than the light walled welded tube provided, but that would have added cost and will not affect my usage. I have another bench top drill press made by a German manufacturer for at least twice the price, much heavier, but I think the Lukcase is excellent value for money and perfect for my needs. ... show more

  • It converts hand drill into benchtop drill press. A good value.
This is a benchtop drillpress, not a floor drill press as the title mistakenly says. I needed a small bench-top drill press and I already had an older, corded, 1/2" 5 amp VSR hand drill that I really didn't use much since it needed to be plugged in. It had a detachable side handle for higher torque drilling, and the space where it mounted fitted perfectly with the mounting ring on this press. There are several bushings included with the press for various sized drills, so as long as your drill has the space above the arbor for mounting to the press and the diameter falls in the range specified for the press, it should work for your drill. It was simple to assemble, and allen wrenches are included. Be sure to keep them handy though, because you need a couple of them to raise/lower the drill, and to set the plunge depth. The only thing I did to alter the press was to use some 5/16" bolts and mount it to a piece of 11/16" plywood so I can "C"-clamp it to my benchtop for stability on heavier work (see photo). But to be honest, I've used this thing several times now, and with the wider footprint it has with the attached plywood, I haven't needed to clamp it in place. This is nice, necause it makes it a lot mor versatile to use it anywhere you have space to set it. It works well for most small household jobs and is easy to set up and put away. It's a nice tool, for the money. ... show more
