Clean cotton is my favorite scent and even though I saw some negative reviews stating the scent was too weak, the container I received had a very strong scent! I placed it atop a cubby shelf but for days it remained so strong I hid it behind one of the cubbies to mellow it out a bit. After a couple weeks it definitely died down, but as a reviewer remarked, you can add a little bit of water to it, shake it up, and the gel beads will smell again. I have added water to it every time it becomes weak and it comes alive again, just not as strong as when it was brand new. However, the Ocean Star scent was very weak from the second I opened it. I placed it in a small office room and can barely smell it. I would recommend the Clean Cotton scent because it was stronger, but again, it was enough to fill just one area...so for a house I'd recommend one jar in each room. ... show more

I was super excited when I saw these and thought they would be a great gift giving idea for teachers. I order some and also got one for myself. When I opened the one I purchased for myself, I will say that it had a very strong and pleasant scent. I originally had it in my kitchen, but decided to move it to the bathroom because after a day or two I couldn't smell this unless I was close to it. Moving this into the bathroom, I was able to smell the scent when I walked into the room. I think this is more so for small spaces and can't really go through a large area. After about a month or so when the scent seemed to go away unless I held this up to my nose, I decided to add a little water and a couple of drops of essential oil and that worked well for extended the scent life of these for about another month or so. I liked these and can see using these in my car or a small room. I'll continue to use my candle in larger rooms. ... show more

I was very excited to add this little jar to my living room to spread a bit of my husbands favorite scent into the house. When I first opened the lid I was surprised that the scent wasn't as strong as a lot of the other Yankee Candle products I've had. Well I removed the foil and placed this on a shelf in my living room. However, there was no noticable scent coming from the shelves. *Now I will disclose at this point that my living room is part of an "open concept" floor plan and therefore there room is not fully enclosed.* I decided to give this a few days and see if maybe it needed to sit for a little bit to be more effective, but nothing. I even picked up the container and shook it (per the directions) and could barely notice anything resembling the scent I purchased. I also asked my husband to give a sniff and, nothing. After the living room failed to make any impact in our living space I thought, maybe it needs time to build up in a smaller space, so I placed this in my hallway closet where we hang our winter coats. This is a SMALL closet, that is rarely opened this time of year, with plenty of soft fabrics to "asborb" smells. After a day, nothing. After a good shake, nothing. After a week...you guessed it...nothing. So to recap, the only time I smelled the scent was immediately upon opening, and it was weak. This is my favorite scent from Yankee Candle. This is the best "clean" or linen/ cotton scent out of any brand I've tried. I usually like warm vanilla scents but I like to keep my car in a more neutral & clean scent category. I used to use cotton scented car fragrance from Bath & Body Works but have done without for a long time since it was discontinued. I finally bought the Yankee car charms thing to have their cotton air freshener and then Yankee Candle discontinued all of their charms line. The little paper fresheners never seem to last so I finally decided to try the beads. I was apprehensive that it would be too strong and overwhelming in such a small space that's often heated up in the sun. So when I opened it I didn't peel back the film entirely. Instead I just cut out a couple of small triangular holes (about the size of a s straw hole) and put the vented lid back on. It's now been in my car for several days and the scent is subtle noticeable but not overwhelming. It also helped cover a mild unpleasant odor in my car that I don't know what the cause of was.
